Why is my RTE1 Picture rubbish

I watch rte from the fanad transmitter (north donegal). This was originally a vhf signal which was fine, a few years ago it changed to uhf which was gave great reception for a while however for some reason the rte1 picture has for some time now been rubbish. My aerial can actually see the transmitter with nothing blocking the signal but the rte1 picture can sometimes be so bad that it is virtually unwatchable due to some type of interferrence that seems to be coming in with the signal. It is like watching the screen through fine mesh wire is how I can best describe it. Also sometimes the signal is strong and the next night it can be very weak. I have checked everything on my end and tried attenuators and boosters and different types of aerial but the interferrence cannot be removed. I am just wondering if this is being transmitted with the signal (which i dont want to believe) or is it being added to the signal by something local interferring with the frequency.

Whats it like with the neighbours?

If it's just RTE 1 and the others are ok then it could be interference. As DMC said, check with your neighbours if they have the same problem and if so, give Reception Investigation at RTE a call.

It,s much the same around the whole area here although some people seem to be able to live with it better than me. BBC/ITV Aerial signals in general are very poor here which perhaps makes the bad rte 1 seem ok to them.
Interferrence is on rte1 and tg4 only (funnily enough not on rte2 which transmits on a frequency between these channels). If I remember correctly rte 1 transmits on channel 59, rte2 on 61 and tg4 on 63. Reception used to be perfect. There is another transmitter at holywell hill that transmits rte1 on channel 23 and rte 2 on 26 and anyone that recieves from that gets perfect reception, this transmitter does not suit me as sherrifs mountain BBC messes it up. The problem seems to be specific to fanad transmitter.
Can windmill generators interfere, they are springing up all over the place here.

I think netwizkid had an issue with construction/windmills in Kenmare.....

As rlogue said, RTÉ Reception info: 1850 584 584 or email transmission [AT] rte.ie

What type of interfence are you getting that's closest to this guide?

    http://www.abc.net.au/reception/tv/tv_interference.htm

Someone using an AM CB rig?

Wind farms, if they generate interference, usually cause ghosting or a weak signal that can happen either steady or depending on the blades that turn. They generally don't cause electric interference, I've used an AM radio next to some with no interference from them.

Thanks for the reply, regretfully none of those exactly match the interferrence, the problem seems to be coming in with the signal, ie it doesnt move across the screen vertically or horizontally, its actually fixed as if it was overlaid on the picture. Iwill have another look at it and post again when I can decide how to best describe it.

Is it possible to take a digital camera picture of it? It would help us and any RTÉ people to diagnose the problem.

Yeah, I will see what I can do although I was told today of someone who has already contacted rte about it so I will talk to him soon and see what reply he got.
