    Hi guys,
    I've been intending on going for the cadets this year. It's all i want to do. My question;
    Does anyone know what the PDF standpoint is on criminal records? i have a possible criminal damage conviction coming up, and i've never been in trouble before. Any ideas- is it definite they wont have me in the cadets with either a criminal record or if im given the probation act (ie, no crim record )? Your relevant knowledge would be much appreciated.
    Thanks

    all well and good mate, but i need to make plans now.And knowing would make things a hell of alot easier. there was no question on the application that i filled in funnily enough.

    Your best bet is to call the application helpline, its at the end of all the TV adds. The person on the other end should be able to give a definate answer. I would reckon it depends on the offence and how long ago it was. If you got the probation act then it could be put down to you being young and that youhave now matured into someone that won't engage in that behaviour again.

    It sound like your case is due up in front of the Judge soon mate...perhaps it might work in your favour to tell him you intend applying for the Cadets and he may be more lenient on you. Tell him that you feel Military Discipline will take the bend out of you etc. etc.

    I dont think a criminal damage charge will stand against you as long as you fit all the other criteria.

    But basically if the interview board dont ask then dont tell them.

    And if they do ask tell them that you want to leave that period of your life behind you and that you made a stupid mistake and hope that the Defence Forces can set you on the straight and narrow....they love that sort of stuff :D

    Best of luck.

    However they may not like someone with a military conviction holding a commission do NOT withhold the info from them, they WILL do a security clearance check on you, which WILL show this. so my opinion is to be honest and as mentioned inform the Judge that you have applied for the Defence Forces in the hopes he will give you a lenient sentence,

    Yeah thats right they'll do a Security Clearance on you but they are only really interested in if you have connections to ParaMilitaries or subsrcibe to subversive groups.

    IF you do get convicted than the best policy is to come clean about it.

    The DF wil only care if you are up in front of a judge whilst serving in the DF. But thats another topic.

    You will fail your security clearance if you been convicted of a serious offence by the Special Criminal Court or by a Civil Court.

    Due to the numbers applying for cadetships, it is unlikely you will be considered at all if you have any convictions, as your security clearance will come back with a list of these on it.

    Thanks again for the replies.i understand that there will be a large amount of applicants, but at most it would be a misdemeanour, and, truthfully, it was accidental damage that i did. But its his word against mine, and he's a vindictive git this guy, who's mates with the local constab if you know what i mean. Its happened in a place where they dont like dubs too much either... once i settle b4hand (an exhorbitant ridiculous amount that i initially refused to pay), i should get the probation act, therefore having no criminal record..but does anyone know if this will show up anywhere? surely it goes on record somewhere, or how else would they ensure they knew about i for the future?
