    Currently I have:

    Bomberman 93
The single player is crap but thats not what I bought it for. 5 player bomberman multiplayer means it's the best version of bomberman other than the Saturn with it's 10 player support.

    Mario Kart 64
By far the worst in the series but still a great game. Multiplayer is still fantastic. The higher resolution and the fact it can be played through Composite and Scart unlike the original makes it infinitely better since I'm not bothered by the loss of ghost data.

    Super Star Soldier
Bought this by accident instead of Soldier Blade. Don't regret it though. Brilliant shmup thats very similar to the aleste games. Really pushes the TG-16 hardware so looks rather nice. The game isn't all that difficult but does move at a blinding speed which takes a while to get used to.

    Bonks Adventure
Fun platformer but by no means essential. Thought it would be better. Also looks quite bad for a TG-16 game. The sequels are much better (bring on Super Bonk!)

    Soldier Blade
Very similar to Super Star Soldier and equally as good. It's impossible to choose between the two.

    Kirby's adventure
Fun little platformer that is a little bit too easy. For a game released in 1993 it looks awful for a NES game. There are also some emulation problems like the build up at the edge of the screen. Still a worthy game but the there are other kirby games that are miles better.

What I"d like from the current list is:

Gunstar Heroes: If I hadn't got Super Star Soldier this would have been next. Awesome in every way.
Ristar: Excellent and overlooked platforming gem for the Megadrive
Zelda 1+2: Never played these 2 so would like to give them a go.
    Super Mario Bros.: It's a classic :)
    Super Castlevania: Classic 2D platforming
Super Probotector: The next best thing to Gunstar Heroes. Developed by the same team as well.
F-zero: Superb Mode 7 racer with great soundtrack
    Comix Zone: Another underrated gem
Military Madness: Great advance wars type game
R-type 1 and 3: Two of the finest examples of the genre.

Won't be touching Street Fighter until a more playable version is made available.

Could go on all day about games I'd like to see so I won't.

    Currently on the system..

Mario64.......Classic game, one of the best ever made..
Donkey Kong Country.......not a great game, but know someone who loved it..
    Zelda......Great memories of this one..
Gunstar Heroes.......Classic Megadrive material, but not Treasure's finest moment (that still belongs to Guardian Heroes)
Bomberman '93........not a great version by any means, Saturn version still rules..
Donkey Kong Jnr........used to play this one all the time when I was young..
    R-type..........don't need to say anymore..
Super Castlevania..........Starts out slow, but picks up immensely in later levels, great soundtrack as well..
Super Mario Bros..........a little botched this version I think, but still playable enough..
Street Fighter II..........originally had the US SNES version years ago, so this release is a bit disappointing..
Super Probotector.............again, had the US version as Contra, great game in 1 or 2 player..
Mario Kart 64............probably the worst version of it, need the SNES version to appear (does account for some of the advances seen in the likes of Mario Kart DS all the same)
Super Mario World...........only easily sitting in the top 3 or 4 games ever made..

Like you Retr0gamer, there are too many games out there that I would love to see on the VC, and to be honest I don't think the service has lived upto the promises.
Without bring the cost of games into it, back in the day I remember Nintendo's claims of hundreds of games being available at launch (wishful thinking). Then again, they want to move the lesser games of history first, and no ones going to buy them if all the top dogs are available from the off..

Unlike most Wii owners I think, the main selling point of the system for me was the VC..

Gunstar Heroes >> Guardian Heroes :p

I'm kind of hoping that with the release of kirby's adventure and kid icarus in the states that this heralds the release of smash bros. brawl since two of the new characters feature in both of these games (meta knight and pit).

    I haven't bought that many.

Only Super Mario Bros, F-Zero and Zelda.

I want to buy as many games as I can on it, especially ones I haven't played before, but I can't justify the cost.

8 euro for a snes game is too much.

I've only put in 20 euro so far, if games were cheaper I think I'd put in more.

I havn't bought anything for the VC yet, but i know i'll cave eventually.

    I'll probably download

    Gunstar heros
    Ristar
    Comix Zone
    Super Mario World
    and
    Bomberman 93

As for games i hope they release over here soon, i really wanna see

Sensible Soccer [best football game ever, PES be damned]
Legend of Zelda: Link to the past
    Secret of Mana
    SF2 turbo
    Micro Machines!

theres probably loads more, but i can't think of them right now. Really i see the VC as a way to play all those games i missed when i was growing up, and could only afford one game a year. I mean, i havn't played most of the games that i've listed.

can these games be played with the wiimote/nunchuck, or do you have to buy that classic controller?

Depends on the game. A GC controller will do the trick as well.

Indeed, though most of the games that I have seen that support the Wiimote are TurboGrafix games. The others pretty much all need either the Classic or GameCube controller.

Only have DKC so far myself.

I only have Mario Kart 64 and Donkey Kong Country (both great) but I'll be getting more in the future when they put up worthwhile titles. I'd happily download some of the oldies like Gunstar and Bomberman but it's not worth the money, when I can play them on the computer.

I don't know why people waste their money on buying so many VC games! There's only a handful I would recommend at this stage. No doubt there'll be many great titles though in the future.

They really are a rip off.

I have mario world and mario kart

    You're right Killaqueen,
they have their price structure all wrong, but I fully support Nintendo's ultimate aim of providing these titles and the whole idea of downloadable content to the Wii.
I've been hanging around the emulation and collecting area for a long time now, and while true that all titles are available on the web(legality not withstanding), there is a convenience and ease-of-use to the VC idea and one that I feel should be supported.
But I think Nintendo are going to have to pull their weight as well, if the VC is going to flourish, both in availability and price.
As you say, people can just as well use their media PCs hooked upto TVs, and wireless pads and effectively do the same thing for free, but its not quite the same.

Isn't it like 5 euro on the PS3 for each PS1 title? We have to pay that for a NES title.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 20,346 ✭✭✭✭KdjaCL

Your not paying for the game really but the ease of use, i dont mind paying for them. But one thing that worries me is space issues i dont have many blocks left and until i can put them on a SD card or something its going to be a pain the ease of use feature is going to be lost also i would rather a VC chanel rather then the appearing on the main screen as channels.

    DKC
    Mario Kart
    F Zero
    Probotector
    Gunstar
    Excitebike
    Kirby
    Zelda
    Mario World
    Street fighter 2
    Ecco
    Altered Beast
    toe Jam

Would also like a free game for buying 3 or something.

There's definitely a few things Nintendo could do to make it more appealing such as incentives such as free games or multi packs etc etc..
The channel view thing is something that should be looked into, would rather just have a separate channel for each machine its emulating and games underneath it..

Can't you delete the games and re-download them at your leisure as the shop encodes your purchase into the console?

Have Mario 64 (play it occasionally), Super Mario World (So good... worth it's weight in gold coins), Mario Kart 64 (Awesome, more controllers are a must if the mini-tournaments are to restart), Gunstar Heroes (Excellent but too hard for me ;_;), Ristar (Why do i love it?), Bomberman (Crappy single player but immense fun even with only two people playing), Street Fighter II (it's no Turbo, but still pretty good) and Kirby (I know... but i <3 Kirby).

    I think there's another... can't think.

Personally i'm loving the Virtual Console. Sure their pricing structure is messed up, but some of those games are worth it... and some of them aren't. Putting on Kirby last night was necessary to still my beating heart after an hour of Excite Truck and in that lies its appeal to me, some of the games are quite relaxing. Yes i'll probably hurt myself trying to complete Kid Icarus when it comes out but i'll finish with a smile on my face knowing that i have had a good time and can have the same thing whenever i want.

Roll on better games. Roll on Link to the Past.

Defeats the ease of use way i like. the pause function is quite cool and i can just point and play DKC any time, redownloading wouldnt be as easy could just play it on pc with ps2 pad quicker then.

True. I'd say when i start to run low on space i'll just delete the games i don't play or when they release iterations (Street Fighter, Bomberman etc) ill just delete the inferior one. I forecast that i'll really only need an SD card (apart from playing my own music in Excite Truck, which is brilliant) would be coming to the end of this year... maybe.

Yeah, but i'd happily pay that price for the comfort of being able to play these games on a console infront of a tv. It's just not the same otherwise.

And Nintendo know that as well, curse my weak and foolish heart.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,350 ✭✭✭✭McDermotX

Going on the recent releases in the US etc,
I don't think we'll have to wait too long for Link to the Past to show up.............incredible game which everyone should be downloading..

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 52,885 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

I probably have or could easily get all these games for the PC but I'll never play or finish them. On the VC I definitely will. Thats the appeal for me, ease of use.

I'm really hoping for some Castlevania 3: Draculas Curse but doubt the emulation is good enough to play it. There is only one NES emulator on line that can run it and judging by the state of the kirby emulation I'm not too confident in nintendos emulating ability. Absolutely brilliant game though.

I'd also really like to see Lords of Thunder and Gates of Thunder.

got mario kart 64, super mario world and f-zero today... played each of them for about a minute and then got sick of them.. but at least now I have them, so I can play whenever I want

    bloody expensive though

Just got R-Type3 and absolutely loving it - brings back a lot of memories from when I thought it was the best shooter in the world.

Also have Bomberman 93 (brilliant with friends and beer), Gunstar Heroes (love side scrolling shooters me and this is tough!), Streetfighter2 (I don't honestly care about it not being super/turbo etc...it still rocks), Mario Kart (Wario Stadium Tea challenges - nuff said) and Golden Axe for pure nostalgia :)

    I want:

    Pilotwings 64
    Cybernator
    Sunset Riders
    Super Turrican
    Double Dragon 2
    Starwing
    Axelay
Some turn-based strategy game where you're on two opposite island building missile sites, giant robots and air defence thingies...loved it but can't remember the name.

    I have:

    Super Mario World
    Bomberman 93
    Mario 64
    Street Fighter 2
    Sonic

    I've got:

Super Mario Bros: Absolute classic, hasn't aged a day.

Super Mario World: As above ^^^

Sonic: Great game but really hurt by the whole 50hz thing.

Gunstar Heroes: Got more play time than anything else on my Wii, bar Zelda:TP. Brilliant in two player.

Super Probector: Really tough, but great fun.

Bonk's Adventure: I got this after hearing great things about it. Kind of disapointing, it's just your bog standard 16-bit platformer. It's not terrible, but I've got better things to do with my life!

Bomberman: If you've got four gamecube pads lying around (or already have four classic controllers) this is essential.

Toejam & Earl: A friend of mine told be this was great... I just don't get how it's supposed to be fun. You just walk around really slowly collecting random objects. Waste of 800 points.

Toejam and Earl is only worth playing in two player. It's very relaxing but not really for everybody.

    Bought :
Super Mario World - The daddy
Super Mario Brothers - it's a classic, but frankly there's no point in buying this if you're buying the above. And you will be buying SMW
Donkey Kong Country - something smells like nostalgia
    Bomberman 93 - it was a reflex. I didn't mean to
Gunstar Heroes - came highly recommended, it kicks a large amount of bootay
StreetFighter 2 - I was never good enough to play turbo. As it is I've only won 2 fights since downloading it. I'm a flying spinny kick thing whore and am regularly punished for it.

    I want :
    Snes : LOZ:LTTP ; Super Mariokart ; Chrono Trigger ; Flashback ; Killer Instinct; Earthworm Jim; Smash TV; First Samurai ; Marvel Superheroes : war of the gems;
N64 : WWF No Mercy; Goldeneye; Perfect Dark; DK64; Conker's Bad Fur Day; Paper Mario; lylat wars
