Only been catching up with his stuff as of recent but The Mysterious production of eggs is a fantastic album and Armchair Apocrypha is pretty good too (think this tour is for the release of that). Ive already my tickets for the 19th. Ridiculously cheap too. Its a wonder how they can put this on for this price considering hes not a totally unknown and must have quite a lot of equipment (even if performes solo). Well done Pod.

Was there last night. What a superb gig. His support/sampler/mixer/everything was phenomenal.

Andrew had a 'flu or something, but his voice was still crystal clear.

Man, what a show. I can't believe I got to see something of that quality for €12 :)

Not to say it was bad but I was kind of dissapointed.

I knew he performed significantly different live and Ive heard fingerlings but I disliked the jazzed up versions. I know he was sick and everything but I didnt like the dramatic approach to his songs. Example: the nervous tics in Nervous tic motion of the head. I think I was kind of afraid hed fall over at some stage.

Having said that his violin and looping work was pretty excellent and some of the songs worked really well. Id see him again in better circumstances (I was a bit sick as well) but Wednesday is a bit early for it.

Dosh was pretty cool too after I figured out the level changes on the drums was deliberate. It was a bit disconcerting initially. Shame there wasnt any vocals though as there are on his album (I dont know if he does them or not).

His gig in Galway last night was cancelled so anyone going Wed should maybe check with the venue at some point to make sure it's still on.

    Fingers crossed.

Anyone go last night? How was it?

I thought he was OK. Much less than I had expected - but I'd only heard some stuff. He started off well, with his over-lapping violin loops and all, but it went very pedestrian after that.

I really went to see Dosh, who was really good. So, it was half a good night.

Last night was good i thought, really good actually. I loved the violin loops the only low point for me was that he didn't play nervous tic motion... or Fiery Crash.... Otherwise i loved it. Dark Matter was super!

Played Nervous Tic motion as the opening on Monday. He said he was giving us the older set because he was sick. I dont remember Fiery Crash though. Was he still suffering from the flu?

No he sounded great, really enjoyed this gig, the more i look back on it the more i like it. Def one i won't forget.

Sorry, I was bored to death and thought he was very unmoving live, no feeling to the set

Was considering leaving after Plasticities which was terrible live and was one of the songs I was looking forward to!

    goddamnit

i got into this guy about a fortnight ago with mysterious production, and two days ago i got armchair, which is also excellent.

i'm sorry i missed this, the €12 fee is practically nothing and is the main reason why i'm beating myself up about not knowing about it. i guess it's too late for shouldve's, but i gotta ask: is crawdaddy also one of those strictly over-18s places?

You might have got away with it on the monday as it was empty and they had minimal staff but in general like all venues with bars that value their drinks license they tend to be strict.

    how many people?

it'd be cool if there were 5 people and andrew bird there...

the nearest i came to that is when i went to see the davinci code and there was only me and this other guy in far corner, in like a 300-seat room.

I was in the balcony so my numbers might be a bit off but there was perhaps 60 people on the ground and 20ish in the balcony. This was the Monday. The Wednesday sold out.

    Is anyone heading along tomorrow?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,834 ✭✭✭Toast

If it didnt clash with every other band in the planet playing tomorrow I would probably have given him another shot.. especially as Dosh is supporting again but going to head to Two Gallants and the excellent Blitzen Trapper tomorrow instead.

Andrew Bird was amazing tonight. Much better than his last show. His voice was so sweet.
