    Laptop fooked up on me so I had to get it formatted ysterday, When I got it back the resolution was completly different to what it was before! The icons and cursor are bigger and the font on web pages is closer together and harder to read! Its almost like im running in safe mode!!..How do I get it back to the way it was before it was formatted? Also, how do I turn the ''tap to click'' on the touchpad off? Its really bloody annoying!

    Thanks.

    go
    start-> control panel-> display properties-> settings tab

    you should be able to adjust the resolution to a higher setting. for best results use the native setting of the laptop. if text is then too small then you may have to go into the advanced settings and change the text size to a higher dpi

    if you cant get a higher res setting doing the above it might be that the driver for the display or graphics card haven't been reinstalled, this should have been done though.

    the trackpad might have software running in the taskbar near the clock, right clicking on its icon might give you access to setting to turn off the click thing. again if the correct touchpad drivers/software for your laptop haven't been reinstalled, then to change this setting you probably have to reinstall this software

    Both of ye need to install the motherboard drivers which should have come with the laptop reinstall disc or else go to the manufacturers website where you should be able to download the latest drivers. To see what drivers you need click start;settings;control panel;system;hardware;device manager and anything there with a yellow question mark has no drivers loaded.

    Thanks for that! I went to device manager and it says the drivers I need under the ''Other Devices'' heading are: Multimedia Audio controller, Network Controller, PCI Modem, SM Bus Controller and Video Controller (VGA Compatible). I then went to HP.com (My laptop is HP) and then went to HP software and driver download, Where do I go from here, it doesnt really explain on the site which drivers I need to download..?

    You need to download and install all of the relevant drivers for your laptop.. if windows was reinstalled but not the drivers you will need all the drivers listed on the hp site for your laptop... there should be a few like chipset,audio,video,ethernet,modem.. you need to download and install all of them

    The tap settings should be available in the mouse settings of your control panel. Some have a pointing device icon.

    A golden rule for formatting a machine to do a clean install of Windows, is to "Always backup your drivers first" No matter what some people think, Windows does not always find the correct drivers during the install process & if you have some third party hardware installed it might not install any.

    Driver Genius Pro is great for the job, it even lets you backup to an executable self install file. (Just run the .exe file & it puts all your drivers back exactly as they were before you formatted.)

    If you just keep a copy of your network card driver (if Windows doesn't come with a suitable one), that'll be enough as you can just get the rest online - this way you can get the latest versions too.

    Unless you're on dial-up :D
