    Hi,
    I have windows media centre edition and I have the tv output connected to the tv.

    I want to be able to press the media centre button on my remote, tv output becomes the main display, res set to 720x576 or whatever basically just pick out my film and play.

    I want to get away from the manual process of setting this up as much as possible.

    Anyone else gone through this? Any advice would be very helpful.

    Thanks in advance

    Mmm tricky never tried anything like that before.

    Google turned up a few possible routes one of which is a program called ResOMatic this program will change the resolution for you then load the targeted program. So you have two ways of going about this, create a shortcut from ResOMatic & launch it manually or use the remote replacement driver below and see if that can do it by customizing the buttons. (This is assuming your running in clone display mode)

    Not sure exactly what happens after the program closes though, still best thing to try first.

    The other is some home automation package called Girder which I've never tried but there is a demo version so you could see if it does what you want.

    One other suggestion is to use Powerstrip;
    I didn't see your original post but I'm assuming you were asking how to
    automatically change your desktop resolution when MCE starts. If so, you
    can do this with powerstrip... setup the resolution, then map it to an
    application (you can also have it switch to a color profile as well as a
    resolution...brightness, contrast, etc.). When the application starts up
    powerstrip will switch to the resolution, when the app closes it will switch
    back.

    Powerstrip has a funky UI that makes it more difficult to learn than it
    should be but it is a pretty handy utility.

    The ability to change the resolution back is useful assuming from the sounds of it that's something you require.

    Another way would be via a batch script to change the resolution and load MCE, the other part is tying the script to a button on the remote.

    {Step 1}
    ResSwitch will allow you to change the resolution via the command line under XP.

    So in your case use a command like;
    "resswitch path" 720 576 32 60

    32 = colour depth and 60 = refresh rate

    {Step 2}
    Add the MCE ehshell.exe to the script

    {Step 3}
    Use the MCE replacement driver to gain full control of all the buttons on the remote if possible bind the script to an unused button on the remote.

    Whether you can change the resolution back on the exit of MCE via a script is something I'm not sure as it has been a long time since I have had to mess with scripts so I've forgotten pretty much everything.

    Still there are a few things worth trying the ResOMatic is the easiest one.

    Oh yeah try 1024x576 as a resolution as well as that's what the actual wide resolution of anamorphic widescreen DVD's are though you may not have the option in the resolution control panel.
