But I dont know who it's from. It's ringing out and it could be quite important so I need to find out who it is. Is there anyway of finding out who a phone number belongs to? I tried directory enquiries but no luck.

Do they any answering machine on there? Maybe try it from a different phone and the person might pick up.

Block your number, ring that number, see if you recognise the voice, then hang up.

Simple as that. And of course, if you know who it is, ring back or continue the conversation...

All sensible suggestions but all flawed.

I did google the number to no avail singsingstar.c-13 this was a called I missed while my phone was off. I have no answering machine so no message. Ruu and Have'nt a clue I have tried ringing to get an answer or an answering machine but the phone number is just ringing out.

Its most likely a business, so that would explain the no answer but it is strange their is no answer machine. It's doing my head in and believe me it is very important.

Well if its a business then you mightnt get them until monday.

Think is there anyone you might have expected to ring you ? Anywhere you sent CV's to ? Anywhere your parents/friends/family work ? A hospital/doctor etc.

If theres anywhere that stands out then throw the name into goldenpages.ie and see if you get a match.

Alternatively if you get desperate you could put the number up and see if anyone knows it ?

I reckon if it was important, they would have left a message. Why not just wait and see if they call again.

    Don't stress about it!

Well you can identify the locality with the first four/five digits. That might get you guessing?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,982 ✭✭✭Caliden

put a 5 after the prefix to see if they have a personalised voicemail!
even if they dont leave a creey one for the laugh

Really? That would help. How do I do this? The first 5 digits are 46416.

    What area code?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,190 ✭✭✭Haven't a Clue

    This apparently (i.e.if it's +35346)

I want to be in the FBI when I grow up.

If it is Dublin, it's Clondalkin direction.
    Area code (0)46 is Navan.

if its (0)46 then its 4690, they changed in '02, so its Clondalkin to Citywest.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,841 ✭✭✭Running Bing

Thats fvckin wierd. It had to be from somewhere around the city centre. I am absolutely stumped now as to who it was. The number as it appeared was +353146416xx.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,190 ✭✭✭Haven't a Clue

Well that is Dublin. 01. You just didn't include the area code when naming the first five numbers.

    Pfft. Look at my location.

    Citywest/Clondalkin

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,841 ✭✭✭Running Bing

Well I really am stumped by that. Would have put my hand on the bible and said it was a city centre location calling. Dont know anyone from there. Anyway thanks for the help. Ill keep trying. Could be as simple as a wrong number. Again cheers.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,190 ✭✭✭Haven't a Clue

I dunno. Maybe some terrorist organisation is out to kill you. So, instead of having their call traced that easy, they've re-routed through some gizmo in Clondalkin, while they sit back in their city centre office laughing, smoking cigars and playing darts with a picture of you over the dartboard.

Yes, I have watched too much 24.

There are a lot of business centres/ business parks/ call centres out there, might explain it?

But Haven't A CLue's suggestion is the one I find most likely.

Yeah - he's right, you gotta get out now - jam cloths in all of the sink drains and leave the taps running, this will cause a huge flood in your house which will hopefully slow them down. Go to the French Embassy in Zurich and hit the security guards over the head with a frozen kebab wrapped in a knee-sock - Jason Bourne style, then lay low until you hear from your contact in Prague.

it'd be easier to get a gun than a frozen kebab in a knee sock.

Aw sorry man, that was me. I had the wrong number sorry, dont worry about it.

Seriously though, unles you were expecting a really important call from someone, forget about it. If someone wants you urgently they'll ring YOU.

That number range covers most of dublin 24. Id say it was someone telling you that you won a prize and if you didnt ring back you lose out. Bummer dude.

This is the funniest thread ever!

Why are you wasting your time and money trying to find out who it is? If it is an important call then they will call you back and all will then be revealed. Its far more likely to be someone trying to sell you something or just a wrong number though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,940 ✭✭✭dingding

Go to www.smarttelecom.ie put the number into the broadband checker and it will tell you what telephone exchange it is connected to. :D

exactly. If it was important enough, they would have left a message.
