I just installed Outlook Express on a laptop for someone.

The laptop is being used by more than one person. Is there any way that this
person could have Outlook Express request a password before it starts up. She
just doesn't want others being able to open it up and view her email.

I have a password on the send/receive button so that no one can download or
    send email from her account.

Depending on how computer literate the other person was you could call the Outlook Express application something entirely different and save it elsewhere. You could then write a little utility programme with the same name as the Outlook Express application. This utility would on first run enable a password to be created you then encrypt and store it. When the password exists your utility would give the options to change the password or open Outlook Express. To perform either option the existing password would have to be entered correctly. If the choice is to open Outlook Express and the password is o.k. then you just shell whatever you renamed Outlook Express to.

Outlook Express might depend on everything else that was in the Outlook Express folder being in the folder where you saved the 'changed Outlook Express'

What about Thunderbird. Does it support anything like Profiles that enable passwords?

Thats a good idea. Ill create an exe that extracts files needed to a certain dir
but have it ask for a PW before hand. :)

yes there is. you can edit profiles in outlook express. when OE starts, in the outlook today view, click on identities in the top right corner, and click on manage identities.

you can then assign a password to the current identity, this will the be required before the programme will start.

Thanks! I figured that out after playing about with it for a while. It's all handy
    dandy now.

    Cheers
