I know this has been thrown out before, but I'm sitting here at work on Friday evening (on my own, all sensible people gone home) and thought why not give it a go.

I think the reason this has never worked is that people aimed to big. We can't expect to get 16/20 people on board straight away, so I propose that a handful of us who are interested - choose a suitable venue, be it 3/4/7/9/10 lads and just book 2 or 3 tee times at normal rate and get the show on the road.

I have the Open Fairways (OF) book if we go for a 4 for 2 offer course and if a few others have the book too - it would make it okay value..

I think/hope there might be a bit of momentum after that first day out.... Mid week would be cheaper and easier to get a tee time - especially if we go for a Dublin course, but it might not suit people, might go weekend, I'm just hopping the ball.

    Here goes.
Venue - not fussy, but I'll propose some to get things moving
    Corballis
Rathcore (4 for 2 offer OF) - if we want out of the city
    Hollystown (25% off OF)
    Elmgreen

    Time and Date
1.30/2 tee off (it'll be bright until after 6.30 by mid March)
Mon March 12th to Fri March 16th... - what days would people like. If any day that week is good for you just say "any day that week".

    There - it's out there...

If 3 other guys will jump on, we can book a venue and time that suits and anyone else is more than welcome to join in if they can get a tee time.

I'll leave it until Monday 26th for people to throw their hat in the ring. After that I'll see if we are in a position to push on (be it with different dates/times/weekends/midweek etc.).

great idea, i have only been playing for about 6 months and know if your not in a club it can be a pain in the ass getting out for a whack as often as you would like. i'm around the castleknock area so yeah elmgreen and the rest suit great. also teetimes.ie do some great deals on mornings if theres any folks who work funny hours like myself.

This sounds like a good idea lads.

I moved over here from Scotland about 18 months ago and i'm looking to get playing regularly.

I've played a few times on my own but its frustrating playing on your own and at busy times etc.

I'm in the ashtown / castleknock area.

Used to play alot of golf when i was younger and got down as low as 3 at one point. Not played regular in about 2-3 years though.

Basically if anyone is looking for a game on saturday's let me know. Failing that i'd be up for one of these boards days.

Tuesday or Friday of that week would suit me. Rathcore would be my pick out of the courses mentioned but I'll travel wherever there's a game going.

Like some of the others, I work shifts so couldn't commit to a regular time, i.e. every Saturday. Will need to consult the shift calendar each time. Any weekends I'm not working are spent with the family too. Generally I play Tuesday or Thursday.

    Hope this works!

Last time I've played was early October of last year.
Problem is I can only get out at weekends, if thats any good i'd be interested.

    Cheers.

Right lads, looks like we have a few brave souls to try and kick this off!
It looks like a midweek round is a runner, so i am proposing Tuesday 13th March
    I'm counting -
    rasco1975
    Griffin1983
    Ziggy67
    Graeme1982
    Milltown
    myself

Anyone else is more than welcome to jump in over the next few days.
With 6 lads at the moment (assuming all of the above can confirm availability), I'll book 2 tee times for 3 balls. If one or two more jump in - which would be great - I'm sure we can turn them into 4 balls.

If there's a little more interest in the next few days I'll try booking a 3rd slot to allow for one or two more to join in closer to the time.

I wont book tee times until early next week, so there's still time for people to throw their hat in the ring.

It looks like Rathcore was seconded (which is great cause I've never played there and am curious). If anyone has a better suggestion close ish to Dublin, just throw it out there!

I might be up for it!

Some travelplans might interfere though. But if I'm in Dublin, than sure thing!

Rathcore is a good course, you won't be disappointed, i've played there a couple of times recently.

Wish i could make the midweek game lads, just don't have that much holiday time to use for the year!

Dont play rathcore next week, was playin there last week and holes 8 , 9 and 10 are closed and are possibly the 3 finest holes on the course, rest of the course is in good nick though

Looks like we'll have to cancel due to lack of interest.

    Aren't we six persons?

    Why?

I can only see one cancellation from your list and if Mejner is around he makes the numbers back up.

I played Rathcore today (badly) and it's in very good nick. No holes closed but the 8th, which used to be a par 4 index 1, is being remodelled and is down to a 150 yard par 3. Still on the card as index 1 so handy points to be had there for the 18+ h/cappers!

Probably a good idea to PM people who said they'd play, just to get final numbers. I'd be amazed if we can't get at least a four ball out. Btw, if we have fewer people to try and accomodate, I'd prefer an earlier tee time but if it means fewer people can make it I'm still cool with 2pm.

If we need another open fairways card I can borrow one from one of the lads in work too.

Sorry lads, when no one confirmed interest after I formally suggested Rathcore and the date I assumed momentum was gone to be honest..... Didn't want to PM until enough had officially given the nod for the 13th and then I'd PM actual arrangements to meet up/tee times etc....

    Whose still on for it?

    Me.

I'm in work monday to friday so only weekend's for me at the minute i'm afraid.

hope this goes ahead though and more days are planned.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,619 ✭✭✭milltown

It looks like it was only going to be me and Mejner anyway but I'm going to have to cry off. Throat feels like I've been gargling broken glass today so rather than risk a worse dose of whatever it is I'll have to go golfless this week.

    Sorry.
