Check out Kyokushin - www.kyokusinireland.com - instructor is Galway is Dave King

Dave's a cool guy but what I'd recommend for speed is kickboxing or boxing.

However, what I think you really want is an effective martial art and that is MMA. Check out www.pointblankgym.com
Mark Leonard is a poster here too and he'll be happy to give you any information you need.
Also, MMA is as close to what jeet kune do actually represents as you'll get in Galway.

    Hi.

I reccommend to check out Dave Joyce, excellent guy and has alot to offer, if you interested in JKD he teaches Sayoc Kali and Thai so that may be up your street. I dont have his website address, but hes on the board plenty of times, look it up and I'm sure you find it well worth your time.

    Hope this helps

    Liam

If your looking for a friendly atmosphere, with nice people where you can learn from someone who has proven track record i would recomend Mark Leonards Pointblank submissions club.

Mark is just after coming off an empressive win at a fight event this weekend (check ROT 6 thread) and his skill as a fighter and coach are well known.

Liam and Quillo, thanks for the heads up guys!

Haven't been able to post in a while as some little sheet managed to break into our club and get away (for now!!!! motherfuvker) with our laptop. However, its good to know the opinions are as accurate as ever. OP was looking for Wing Chun/JKD and it somehow evolved to MMA/BJJ with of course the obligitory

. Good to see some things never change.

    What the OP actually said:

    italics are my own

    To the OP,
Try all the ones you can find and see what you like. There's plenty of TKD and Kickboxing in Galway too, as well as Muay Thai if that has any interest for you. My own recommonendation would be to check out Mark's club fast! :)

Mark Leonard is tried and tested in competition. He's a good guy too. I'd recommend dropping by his place..

Dave, I wasn't trying to slight muay thai or any of the other MAs or sports mentioned. I think it's generally accepted that one of the best, if not the best system of striking for MMA is thai. However

"Jeet Kune Do not only advocates the combination of aspects of different styles, it also can change many of those aspects that it adopts to suit the abilities of the practitioner." (top of fourth paragraph)
That sounds like mixed martial arts to me.

Semantics, Mr Murphy, as I find it hard to understand, giving where the lad suggested his interests lie ie Wing Chun/JKD that suddenly that equates to MMA/BJJ. To be honest, I wouldn't dream and have never suggested to someone that if they thought they'ed be more interested in MMA or BJJ that they take up Muaythai or something in any of the threads here.

The second reason I find this particularly ironic is (especially when you give me THE defination for JKD RealJohn) is the slaggin some of the regular posters have given to JKD and especially Wing Chun.

If you cant find jkd or wing chun i would advise you to do Boxing or MMA and there is clubs of both these in galway-both of these can be suitable for beginners and advanced martial artists, best of luck in whatever you choose-if i was you i'd research what each martial art entails and make an educated decision.

Rush Boxing club and Rush Martial Arts head coach.

Just to clarify, I wasn't suggesting that the quote I provided was the definition of JKD, it was merely the first quote I came across that summed up (more or less) what my understanding of JKD is.

I'm not here to argue with you Dave. I merely gave my opinion on the original query and you took issue with my opinion.
