forced to give up firefox for boards?

Has anyone else had to start using IE again to get boards to
work properly? For me at least, IE gives the full txt of
a post when you roll over it, the drop down menus
work and today firefox was just giving a blank page
when I tried to access boards but IE is fine.

It seems to be the only site I use that is like this, are
any other sites like this too? is it me, boards or
    firefox that is the problem?

Interesting. I have no problems with Firefox (2.0.0.1).

Could you post up your exact Firefox version? Do you have many plugins installed?

Some dropdown menus ( for mod stuff ) don't work in FF, like merging threads and so on.

mine is 2.0.0.1, up to date according to FF itself. themed but no plugins. do the search drop downs and stuff work for you? saw something in feedback about that being a known issue..

Mine is 2.0.0.1 on Linux so there may be some minor differences if you are running the Windows version.

I occasionally have an issue with the drop downs but only when the site is so slow that it's barely usable. They're working perfectly right now.

I'm using vista and ubuntu and it's fine. Can't use the search thing but that's normal, isn't it?

when I click the search dropdown I get a dropdown menu that lets me type a searchword and it then searches using boardtracker. When I click
the search dropdown in firefox nothing happens...

I get a lot of weird behavour in FF. After reading this thread I gave IE7 a whirl, which I rarely use and Boards does seem to work better with it, and is possibly quicker?

I have the same problem (only in the last week or so I think).
    Firefox 2.0.0.1, Windows XP Home

The drop down menu problem is an issue caused by compatibility issues between Firefox and vBulletin.

When the site is upgraded to the newest version of vB the issue will be resolved

it's weird. sometimes it works for me in ff and other times i have to scoot over to rendering in IE to ban some silly mofo.

some issues with boards, sometimes fancy stuff works, sometimes it doesn't, in Firefox on Ubuntu. it only started happening recently,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,192 ✭✭✭HungryJoey

Same with me, Sometimes it works.. Sometimes it doesn't.

But I have the same problem in IE somedays too.. Drop down menus don't work etc.. Very annoying.

There's a thread in Feedback about this. If there is more than one page (in a thread or a thread listing page), then the drop down menus (username, search, mod utils, page nav, etc.) don't work in Firefox.

Table rendering is much much faster in IE than Firefox, I've always found. Also the dhtml/dropdown menu of the various forums is DOG slow in Firefox, so I've just AdBlocked it altogether.

    use this for firefox

    https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1419/

it lets you open an IE tab in firefox, its really useful for sites like boards that are coded for IE.

give it a go, its a lot easier than having to open a seperate window

cheers vinny will try that, i know it i heresy but am thinking of giving IE another shot now that it has been working so well for boards.

hadn't had much of a look at the latest version, it's not half bad.

With about 30% of people now using FF sites like Boards are really going to have to ensure that their site works as good with FF as it does with IE the days of just coding for IE are over

I noticed that the forum option dropdown where the subscribe option is, doesnt work sometimes in firefox and works fine other times. I use the latest version of Firefox on my PC and Opera 9 on my mactop.

Boards uses third party software for the forum, when they upgrade to v3.6.4 these problems may be resolved, failing that they should be resolved by v4.

One thing I noticed is that the drop-down Navbar at the very top of boards only works when logged in in case anyone thinks that's a FF problem... The others are so niggly that tbh I didn't even notice and it wont put me off using FF.

As for reading the whole text of a post when you rollover it, why not just click on it and you get the whole thread ;)

it's not that drop down thats the problem, it's the clickable ones like search, quick links etc.

clicking on it eh, might try that. kind of ruins the whole point of the preview really though..

not for me they haven't, it does seem to be as noted above on threads longer than two pages, eg this one, they don't work but when it tht reply to thread window they do..

maxthon uses the IE engine so seems to have few compatibility issues, been using it for years so its my windows browser of choice, use ie7 somethimes, lot better than ie6 used to be, for linux i'd be using firefox, don't use it much so hadn't notice things not working on boards.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,664 ✭✭✭rogue-entity

I sternly refuse to use a browser based on/using the IE Engine, because the IE Engine is the reason that IE is so crap, and why I switched to firefox (and Opera on the Mac).

Dropdowns like the one for search et al, work fine sometimes and dont the next, it is irritating, yet odd. I havent noticed this issue on vB3.6.4, so who knows, maybe when the guys that run this place upgrade, all will be better..
