Dublin? Availability? Pricing? I gather the offical products are sold at a whacked markup...

if you can't find a lomo, maybe buy a lubitel? dunno how available they are, though.

Do you want general Lomo cameras or The Lomo?

I think the fisheye is in Habitat, and there's a few Holga's and other bits and bobs in the Photographic Archive place in Meeting House Square.

General holga, I guess. Whereabouts is Meeting House Square in Dublin?

Lomos are, really, the Lubitel or the LC-A. You might find a deal on the LC-A on Ebay, but less likely now. They're more popular now than when I bought them, and that was then I thought they were popular!

Lubitels are CHEAP, and available on Ebay.

I got my Holga on Ebay from some lad who sold them, marked up, right outta the factory in Hong Kong. €25 or something.

Not sure if you can order the new versions (with Bulb and colour flash filters), though. Give Ebay a whirl.

a mate of mine once had a lomo action sampler - must see if he still has it.

I always thought Lomo referred to the cyrillic script in the Lubitel logo:

I use one of those, and get some passable results from it. The cooke triplet lens gives quite a soft image and the falloff in focus towards the edges of the frame can be pretty brutal when you go wider than f8:

It's a lot closer to a real medium format camera than the deliberately wacky plastic-lensed cameras, so it depends what you want to achieve.

As far as where to get one, eBay is your friend. Choose your seller carefully, and read all the shipping T&Cs before bidding.

lubitels are made by lomo, but i'd always understood a reference to 'the lomo'as being to the LC-A.

I wouldn't say plastic lens cameras are "deliberately wacky", just sold as such at lomography.com. I find I get a colour saturation much better with a Holga than I ever have done with any glass lens camera I've used, but that's just personal taste I suppose... Sorry for going slightly off-topic
