These are only €170 in Argos. Review here

Excellent price seeing as its over €450 in Halfords! Its from the old catalogue so they mightn't have many left....

    hi,

just did a quick search on www.argos.ie and couldn't see any ref to the unit. how did you get to hear about it ?.

    regards

I was just looking through the old argos catalogue and checked over the phone.

It wont appear on the site as its only new stuff they have there. Try the ring and reserve of some 'Extra' shops.

They have 4 left in the Limerick Extra store anyway if thats any good to you?!

If anyone is interested I got the awesome sony bt5000 from ebay america for e235 including shipping. It has built in bluetooth, the ad2p bluetooth streaming is just brilliant. Basically, I can stream music from my phone or mp3 player to the stereo with no loss in quality. They marked the value as e50, delivered via fedex in 3 days. I had to pay e18 customs, if only they knew the real value:D

    Its e500 on gear.ie

    Order number?

    The catalogue number is 049/0414.

Like i said, its from an old catalogue, so you gotta ring around some Argos Extra stores to see if they have any left.....or come to Limerick! :D

EDIT: Right, I'm bored, so there is currently stock in the Blanchardstown (West end retail park), Limerick (Childers road) and NO stock in Liffy valley.

Nephew: does that stereo only have odd freq, i.e. 98.1,98.3 because in america they only broadcast on odd freq

I have this reserved in Blanch, thanks Pacifico :) seems like a good bargain alright, but does its high price elsewhere define quality? I mean are we paying for a great head-unit or just an average head unit that can play MP3's? Personally I wont be using the actual MP3 playing function much as I'll want to connect it to my other mp3 player (Is there an AUX-In do you know Pacifico?)

    Is there bluetooth?:o

Thanks OP - I may take advantage of this bargain. :)

Cormie > it doesn't seem to have bluetooth.

Here's a link to 10 user reviews [Linky]... the most I could find in any one place.

Does anyone know whether Argos will fit it for free... or at all?

Argos deffo wouldn't fit it I'd say! Should be easy enough though, speakers are the ones to worry about fitting:)

There is no bluetooth. Apart from that its an excellent head unit. The MP3 player is drag and drop also, you dont need to use any crap Sony software :)

Yes there is an AUX connection along with 2 other RCA connections for Amps, Subs etc.

Fitting should be easy enough, depending on your car. Anyway Halfords will fit it for you, if you're stuck.

You get a IR remote also, and its looks great :p

Just read them reviews, thanks for the link.

So in terms of an MP3 head unit, this seems like a great deal alright, but for somebody who wont be using the products main feature (me), is the sound quality and other specs enough to still make this a great bargain I wonder?

I just saw them on ebay for pretty much the same price by the way;)

To those in the thread asking questions and who pm'd me about the Sony Bt5000.

Any new phone that support AD2P will let you stream from your phone to the stereo, the K800i for example. But nearly all phones with bluetooth will work with the handsfree.

You can buy one of these sony bluetooth transmitters which you plug into any earphone jack and stream to the radio without any loss in quality.

    http://www.pixmania.co.uk/uk/uk/455367/art/sony/tmr-bt10-bluetooth-transm.html

I bought one from Japan for e50 or e60, the instructions were in Japanese.

The radio works over here. I have no problem picking up stations, but I haven't used it much to really comment on it tbh.

It comes with an American loom, so involves a bit of wiring or alternatively you can buy a loom in Halfords for about e20.

My brother is thinking of getting this to see if it will sort out a volume problem with his sound system now because it's 4x52 watt instead of what he has now, 4x40 watt. Just wondering, seeing as though they are sold out everywhere, would anyone be interested in buying off him if it didn't sort the problem?
