    Hello

Myself and the girlfriend (both 25) are thinking of going to Italy for the first 2 weeks in June for some relaxation, sight-seeing, activities whatever. Basically looking for lots of chillin out, relaxation and maybe something romantic.

Does anyone have any suggestions on where to go, what to do etc?

I've been to Venice, Bologna and Rome and she hasn't been at all so I was thinking of maybe flying to the south somewhere, stay there for 3/4 days then go somewhere else in the south for another 3/4 days and then go to rome for 3/4 days and fly home from there (as I loved rome and don't mind going back). Wouldn't mind hitting the beach for a few days also.

Your advice would be greatly appreciated,
    Simon

June will be hot, so get your swimsuit ready and go to the south. If you want to find a nice sea you can choose between those places:

    - Isola del giglio / argentario (Tuscany - not really south but great place)
    - Ischia, Ponza, etc (they are all islands in front of Naples, most of them are of vulcanic origin and they are beautiful, sand will be darky)
    - Costiera Amalfitana (down Naples - absolutely great)
    - Some places in Puglia, especially in the extreme peak of it - never been there but friends reported me is one of the best sea in italy).

Those places where all in the "boot" (we call Italy this way). Otherwise, you have two other options you want to go oversea of the boot, but still staying in Italy:

    - Sardinia
I was born and risen there (13 years of my life almost), needless to say that I'm gonna suggest it at all. The best beaches and natural resorts in all the mediterranean and somebody even said that the water was better than the one of the Caribbean. Avoid places like Costa Smeralda since they are unfortunately populated by rich VIPs who ruined the coast with their horrible hotels and villas. Also, due to its appeal, this place become incredibly expensive.

    - Sicily
Never been there, not a big fan of Sicilian culture but it's indeed a beautiful place.

If you don't like the sea.. well... I'm not a big fan of mountains, but Alps and Appennini are indeed great places to go (even if they are better during the winter - but even without snow they still look beautiful).

I'm not long back from Florence, and it's a beautiful place. the city is amazing, like an open-air museum with statues, fountains etc everywhere. It is a little touristy (and this was in February, so I cant imagine June), but that's to be expected, I guess. Pisa is only an hour away too, and also pleasant.

Steer clear of Napoli. It's just a giant halting-site, as a friend of mine very aptly put it.

I'd love to go back myself though, what were your thoughts on Venice, Bologna and Rome?

    Hey Simon,
Italy is great choice - great food, great scenery, friendly people, beautiful buildings and very romantic.

I visited the North West Italy last summer and I can't recommend it enough. We flew to Pisa (Ryanair), and then trained it to Cinque Terre, which is a real hidden gem. There is 5 villages built into cliffs on the coast. The area is a national park. The villages are linked by walking trails (about 20-80 mins walk between each) and there is also a train which tunnels through the mountain and pops out at each village. The sea is perfect for swimming, beautiful clear blue water. There's very few hotels, but there's lots of rooms to rent, which you can find in the morning. A room costs about €50 per night.

You gotta check out the Leaning Tower of Pisa, because it is right next to the airport and nearby Lucca is a beautiful walled Tuscan town, with a great buzz at night.

I've never been to Milan, but if you have two weeks there, why not arrance to fly home from Milan, as I'm sure it is worth checking out - though maybe you don't want your girlfriend to see all the designer shops.

Hope you plan a nice holiday, and if you want any advise on North West Italy, just ask!

Heya - thanks a million to everyone for the replies they are very much appreciated!

NekkidBibleMan - Rome I thought was amazing, went for 4 days and just walked around (in September weather was great) visiting all the usuals - couldnt recommend it enough. Venice was ok, very congested with tourists and was there for 2 days which was enough. Bologna was great as there weren't many tourists so was great to get a feel for proper Italian living - not much to see really just nice food and sitting around the piazza's etc

    Thanks again everyone

Hi, myself and the GF have booked a weekend in Venice for the end of May. Does anyone have any advice about things to do there, find any good (reasonably priced) restaurants etc. Cheers for any help

Venise it very expensive; cost me 20 euro to park the car for little over an hour. It was a huge disappointment on the whole, for me because I had always wanted to go there. I only stayed 2 days in the end and then headed over to the west to Genoa which I absolutely loved. I'd steer clear of Milan also, even when the sun is shining - its still grey. Very industrial
