There is a small buzz from my amp when i plug my guitar in.(i know its the guitar cos tried another guitar and was grand)

i had a similar problen before with a previous guitar but i opened it up and was obvious the wire and jack needed to be soldered (which then worked).
But this time there doesnt seem to be any loose connections.

It seems as if its not being earthed ,as when i touch the strings the buzzing stops.

    Any ideas?

    Is the bridge earthed?

On the bridge there are 2 screws. If their screwed on too tight it will buzz or if the 2 screws arent the same height they will buzz.
Not sure if your guitar has those 2 screws though but my sg does.

If you touch the strings and the buzzing stops then it is earthed (ie, you are connected to the strings, which are connected to the bridge, which are connected tot eh electronics, etc) to the bridge.

Firstly, what type of guitar is this> Does it have single coil pickups or humbuckers?

I'm guessing the other guitar you tried had humbuckers?

This is a feature of single coil pickups, it's perfectly ordinary, it's just electrical noise being picked up by the pickups (things like TV's, CRT computer screens, neon lights all cause this noise). The best thing you can do its look into shielding the guitar (google "guitar shielding", there's a wealth of documentation out there) or if you can't learn to live with it, replace the pickups.

actually your right , it was a humbucker!

Yeah it must be that cos it s louder if laptop is on in the room.should have copped earlier.
    Cheers Doc.

    No problem :)

If the shielding doesn't work consider something like a set of Kinman pickups, they retain that single coil tone but really cut out the noise. I haven't heard the Tele ones but a mate of mine has a set in his strat and they sound ****ing beautful
