I seen in the past watching UFC that some Fighters call their method.." Pitfighting " Tank Abbot being one. and the other guy who said he was Pitfighting had a massive gut on him...cannot think of his name.

    What is Pitfighting ?

    that was paul varleans

pitfighting was an invented term used by seg(the original owners of the ufc under bob merowitz) to promote street-fighters along with making up fight records and marking up blackbelts etc

So it was just for a bit of badboy hype then?

but those pit fighters probably just trained like any other MMA guy...3 ranges etc?

I think pit fighting was just a colourful name they used in the early ways to describe street fighting.

The Hammerhouse (Ramdleman, Coleman) guys did make a pitfighting short film at one point. But its was basically bareknuckled MMA.

There was/is a PitFighting Championships but it basically your standard US cage mma. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TGw94gmCR1E

Yeah it was a made up term for fat untalented bar fighting thugs like tank to sound interesting. Worked too!

That hure Tank has a Degree in History....found that out when I was googling Pitfighting.

But then again having a degree(or 2) does not stop you from bar fighting! LOL! ;)

He lasted 17 mins with Frak Mir ( I think??)...thats good going....he must be better than he was given credit for.

Yeah....the Americans love all that Bad Boy crap.....great hype and for selling tickets and pay per view. Tyson would still draw a crowd over there...just in case he might bite an ear off again...

Ahh in the fight I saw anyway he lost pretty fast to Mir, from a toe hold.

I am getting mixed up so with something else.

However, the dude must have some sort of a standard of skill to have been in UFC...

Tank did amateur wrestling all through high-school and he trained as a boxer for years before UFC too

there were many untrained brawlers who competed in early ufc events

I always like the earlier events better myself.... like UFC 1 Sumo vs Karata sort of thing...

Yes more scrapy, but more fun to watch!
