Made redundant

    Hi guys
I'd a quick search but can't think straight at the moment.
We're a small company (25 or so people) and to 'cut outgoings' 6 of us were made redundant today.
I've been given 6 weeks notice. I've been here 28 months.
Anyone know the legalities of redundancy?
I was told I'd get a lump sum tax free. Any ideas how much?
Also I've a LOAD of holidays due to me - should I get paid for them?
    Thanks
    M

I think you can get up to 10 grand tax free (only once though-so if your payout is small you might want to keep it for another time)
You will get paid for all your holidays.

I have been made redundant 3 times in my life - here is what happens (classic model)

denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance

At least there are plenty of jobs out there. What do you do?

Sorry about the redundancy. I imagine it's a huge shock.

This may help calculate how much you should expect in a lump sum - http://www.entemp.ie/employment/redundancy/calculator.htm.

Also you should be paid all your holidays AFAIK.
    Good luck.

Time to buy an xbox 360, 4 new pairs of boxers and a crate of heineken I fear.
Thats what Im doing, I have only six weeks from redundancy also.
U will have a bit of cash to sit on for a while, you know? Its possible to relax and enjoy not having any work to do for a little while.

    Thanks for the replies guys.

As this hits home I now realise that its more the senior developers and not the junior developers who are being let go. Even though we're here over a year longer than them.

    Is this legal?

    Thanks

Sorry to hear about your situation. With costs in Ireland skyrocketing, managment are sometimes the first to be let go as they naturally earn a lot more. In this case its the senior developers who I assume are earning more than junior developers. If you are in a union you should contact your rep, if not contact FAS.

Thanks Don just contacted Fas as I'm not in a union.
    Cheers for the help.

thats very short sighted of the company. Senior devs might be paid more but I bet they know more, are more productive and can help the junior devs out.

If the senior devs are going then check to make sure they don't start advertising to new junior positions becuase that would be illegal.
