I think the more likely response is something like "if you have a legitimate need to access a certain site - ask the sysadmin about it" :p

Do you have admin rights on your machine?

No, unless you have a separate proxy server to use, there's no way around it.

AFAIK Surf Control Policy is based on your Username for the Domain. Local Admin rights are irrelevant.
Do you log onto a domain before you access the web? Or do you get challanged for a Username & Password when you go online?

The question is why is the content being blocked.
Surf control has certain default rules:
    -Porn
    -Gambling
    -Racist/Hate speech
-Web Email (Yahoo, Gmail, Hotmail etc.)
    etc.
The IT dept can also block any other content it wishes.

So. If the content you are trying to access is not "questionable" ask the IT dept why you are getting blocked.
If it is questionable, bear in mind that even though you are not getting as far as the site, the fact that you tried is logged!

    Good luck.

Not sure about "Surf Control" but look up "http tunneling" - a compnay I used to work for blocked everything, and one of these types of sites (I can't remeber which one) let me view almost whatever I wanted.

I have to login to my PC as it starts up.

I dont use my PC to look up anything bad. But they stop all kinds of sites
Like cgtalk.com , yahoo mail. play.com.. stuff like that.. I know other sites are blocked... But at 1 stage boards.ie was blocked... but i told him i use this for getting customer feed back hehe

So i take it theres no way around it... aw well.. just thought i'd check

They say that you are not allowed surf the web in work hours as you should be working,,,, but there is always times where nothing is happening and you want to read something that interests you...

    Thanks.

I understand that mate but if they have notified you of their policy you have to obey it! To be fair you can understand where they are coming from!
Companies lose countless hours due to employees surfing when they should be working! That doesn't mean I agree with it;)

Can you access stuff at lunch or out of hours?
With Surfcontrol you can put a time restriction on users - ie. allow users to access those sites during lunch and before 9/after 5.

    Simple
get a job with a company that doesn't have Surf control.

Check with your HR dept. about what penalties would apply.
