They say that it will automatically be sent out once the free trial is over and you've made your first payment. About 2 weeks after I'd made the first payment, I still hadn't received it so I emailed to query this and got a reply almost instantly that it was ready to ship. Got it a couple of days later. So I reckon you should email and query why it hasn't been sent yet and you should hopefully get a reply telling you it's ready to go. Hope that helps.
By the way the player is a great little machine, only slighty bigger than a mouse mat, ideal for holidays to keep the kids amused.

I mailed them about this ages ago. you've two choices. Either collect them from their HQ or pay for them to be shipped out. Cowboys.

Can they do that? I'm almost sure there was nothing about postage costs in the T&C.

That's a bit strong isn't it? The dvd player is free, just like the offer says. If you collect it, then it costs you nothing, if you want them to post it then you pay the postage, which incidently if I remember correctly is 7 euro. If you joined for the express reason of claiming the free dvd player you may have a small gripe over paying the 7 euro, but if you were going to join anyway then 7 euro for a nifty little slim easy to take on holidays dvd player is a complete bargain IMO

I got the dvd player quite quickly after signing up. The service is quite good. I didnt mind picking it up. Not a bad little player either.

where did you pick it up from ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,133 ✭✭✭✭GBX

I picked it up from off capel street. I actually had a friend pick it up, he works next door. but it was straightforward. I called and said I wasnt sure what time exactly it would be, but I told it it was X day, they said no problem. this is probably the best option, because they have to give it to you if your sure to be getting one.

Lol there such cowboys, im on the 3 film package but am gonna cancel soon. Check out their new prices in their email. They say "An Post has just announced at 12.5% increase in postage. Unfortunately, here at Moviestar we work extremely tight margins and as a result of this a new pricing structure will be introduced. This new pricing will come into effect on Monday 19th February 2007 for all new members joining up on or after that data".

    New price plans
    MiniMove - €7.99 - Limited to 2 DVDs a month
    Movie 1 - €13.99 - Unlimited, 1 at a time
    Movie 2 - €18.99 - Unlimited, 2 at a time
    Movie 3 - €26.99 - Unlimited, 3 at a time

I dont know what there 1dvd,2dvd prices were but there 3 dvd was 18.99.

So a 12.5% an post increase = about 21.50 for the 3dvd package yet there increasing it to 26.99! Nearly a 50% increase.

Wonder why they didnt make up this an post increase earlier. And suprise suprise, all these packages are 1 euro cheaper than screenclick. Just a coincidence!

And there getting rid of the game plans it seems:

    GAME PLANS
Despite our best efforts, our Game packages have not been very popular and have not attractive sufficient numbers to warrant continued investment. Members of these packages will be emailed over the next few days about options.

"We launched Moviestar just over 5 months ago, and it’s been a very busy 5 months! We’ve well exceeded our member projections and now have over 12,000 users "

I think they will be taking out one of those 0's out.

Yeah the increase is a joke. might cancel it myself

still works out cheaper than screen click or xtra bandits.

I havent been able to find details of it making region free.

hardly justifies them making up some postal charge and increasing the price by nearly 50%?

They only had the prices lower in the first place to get customers and now that they do have them they'll rip them off just like screenclick etc. That 50% increase is what will be paying for those cheap dvd players. So if you decide to stay, it isnt so free anymore. But im sure we'll get some employess from moviestar posting saying how good they are.

Anyone notice in the past few weeks (the past 2 in particular) that they have been very slow to send out new dvds and hardly ever send out the ones youve got at the top of your list. Its got to the point now where im thinking of leaving moviestar. Any other companys that are good??

    Yip terribly slow.
They received 3 back last Monday and they sent one out Tues, one Thu and one Fri.
Thats very poor considering I had a big list of varied titles.
I always thought 18.99 for the 3 disc package was unviable,Lovefilm and Blockbuster in the UK charge £14.99 per month for the equivalent package, thats about €23.
Even with the slow turnaround I still received 14 films last month which is a hell of a lot cheaper than going to Xtravision who charge 5.25 a night and have a rubbish selection.

The prices before the increase were:
    Movie 1 - €9.99 - Unlimited, 1 at a time
    Movie 2 - €14.99 - Unlimited, 2 at a time
    Movie 3 - €18.99 - Unlimited, 3 at a time

I compiled this price against Sclick+BusyB & found out these were the cheapest by far until now.

As the only difference is the turnaround they have for sending out dvd's.

But i'll see if that works out as well over the next month?

Yeah i got this in my email today
Moviestar is celebrating reaching 15,000 users by giving away €10,000 worth of DVD players.

Come join us and The Spinnies to celebrate and be in with a chance of grabbing a DVD player from our Pyramid of Players. It all happens tomorrow, Wednesday 21st of March at the top of Grafton Street (Stephens Green end) at 12.15 pm.

As they have that many customers now, they really only celebrated with the Dublin market & sod the rest.

As it was a bit pointless  sending that email to everyone, although it was nice to be invited but really a kick in the teeth really when you look at it :(
