I've basically missed around a third of my labs in one science subject this term and am crapping myself about getting an NS for it. I'm in the process of 'sorting it out' but I dunno how far that's gonna get me as I have no certs or the like. What's the craic with NS in the science department? If I do end up getting one, just for one term in one subject, will this hugely affect me i.e will they tell me to f**k off when it comes to my exams? Ta!

Not likely but the thing is they still can do it. If I were you I'd go to the rest of my labs and stay in the process of "sorting it out". Once you seem to be making an effort then there shouldn't be much problem. The sci faculty are good at bending the rules if you ask/beg them nicely.

I know this is unlikely to help you now but for those in Science...

There is meant to be an ability in Science Faculty to self-certify if you were ill and missed a lab. Emma Dunphy and Tara Cox as Science Convenors from way back when managed to secure it as a policy but I have the feeling that it was so under utilised that the Faculty has forgotten about it.

Maybe Danger Bob can enquire about it and check the union records!

depends on the subject.... you can get away with missing all you want in certain subjects if you wanna lose marks. By "get away with it" I mean you won't get expelled but will have fun in the summer exams

Aye and what fun was had. O.P. I didn't hand my chem labs from trinity term in 2nd year... mmm 17% in the annuals. Supplementals are not a fun way to spend the summer.

It depends on the school/vice-deanery. In the calendar there is a requirement that you don't miss more than a third of your attendence but each subject is allowed have their own additional rules.

Why have you missed the labs? Pure laziness or is there any kind of reason? Have you been attending lectures? Do you think you will be in a position to sit your annuals?

I hear that. The one plus side is that the library is always quiet... though it doesn't open past 5pm in summer, which is a bit of a kick in the nads.

misefreisin: if you can sort it out now, do.
