could this work? (complicated team event tourney)

once again, one of my late night ideas. so the plan as i see it, some time mid-late march dit will want to run another tourney (we do this regularly for some reason) and with all the hype around team events these days i figure we should give it a go, but put a studenty-gambley (tm) twist on things. here's what i was thinking...

Teams of 3... 18,000 starting chips between the entire team, to be dispersed as the team captain sees fit. At any time the team captain may move chips from one player to another (this must be done through the tournament director, kinda like the way a sub in footie must be done through the ref). For fun, we'll allow substitutes, so say myself lloyd and anto are a team, and anto gets his AA cracked on the first hand - which will be fine cos team captain lloyd will only give him 800 of our 18,000 chips, at any point lloyd as team captain can sub in anto for myself or lloyd in case we need a break from the pressure, or if one player has a massive stack but another team member plays a big stack better, SWAP 'EM!! For real drama, i think we'd give every team one "Run It Twice" chip, where if you get all your chips in the middle, with 88 against AK and not sure if you wanna take the race, you can use the RUN IT TWICE chip and possibly chop the pot. I'm thinking 40e per team, 30e goes into the team prize pool, and 10 euro to the individual prize pool.

and to add to the TEAM-ness of it all, there will be no heavy points weighted system in favour of the winner, if there is 40 runners, you get 40 points for first, and 1 point for 40th... EVERY POINT COUNTS!!!!

now then, could this work!?!??! consider it a pilot scheme for future team events run by proper people!

didn't we envisage having a game like that after the dcu masters, I think I slagged dit or something and it led to a team event being planned that we never played. interesting jeff, although it doesn't really matter what rules you add, dcu obv will take it down.;)

i'd play but i think the rules would be too complicated to run it smooth,
    too hard on the TDs

    have teams of three,
    allow transfer of chips,
but all players play at the same time, or have one table of 9 teams and subs, like the tv teams games but get rid of running it twice, too hard to do right

say you got 9 teams, 18000 stack, and set blinds limits on players,
    of three.

so one table, and all the first players sit down with chips, say 6000 max. to keep some out of play.
And these players can stay in the game no longer than 4 levels, by that time a sub must be made, it can be made before this obviously.
the next player can add to the stack from back up chips and they can stay in the game until level 8. At this point final players and chips can enter the game

It would be different alright! If you were serious about having a tournie with a few little quirks in it, then i reckon you'd get a good crowd and i'd play. It would be hell on the 2-3 TDs needed but they have it too easy anyway :D

What you will get is resentment towards team captains for taking some of some of your chips away etc. There will be a lot of frustration among players and Captains will be accused of favouritism. IMO there would be acrimony.

Thats why I suggested to have limits on it, sub has 6000 chips that he brings to the table, its up to the captain to pick when they are added, but not how much.

Thats a fantastic idea for a tournament! Love the run it twice chip idea. To keep it a bit regulated the transferring of chips should only happen at a small interval between the blind levels. Get on it, id play!!

Im not suggesting liberties would be intentionally taken, im thinking it might be implied under breath by aggrieved players that feel their stack is being plucked at more often than others. Some teams might not be best of mates going into the game like you may be.
Of course you could allow it, its not as if its against the rules but the troops need to be kept happy. Also some players will be saying "ah shur even if i win this all in and i double up they will come and take it away anyway"!.Besides it doesnt matter what a captain will do, sometimes he's damned if he does and damned if he doesnt.

Probably just my cynical mind rearing its head again!:o

I think you should scratch the chip transfer idea and just go with the player swap idea. And also there should be a couple of windows (ie after each blind level) where only transferring is allowed. So what would happen would be that each captain may submit any transfers during each blind level, and at the end the td processes all the submissions, and the transfers are made. Not sure that theres much point in a run it twice chip but anyway. Just my couple of cents
