Ok, before I go anywhere. Sorry if this is not the correct section but I was not 100% sure where it should go. Second is that I'm using DC++ for the sharing of NON copyrighted anything so please dont close or delete on that basis as I am at my wits ends with this.

I could really use some help on this

I just moved and have not been using my PC for a while. I have a PC that I normally use as a server but its in Boxes atm so I wanted to get this one set up on a temp basis.

So I downloaded the newest version of DC++ client (0.698). Installed it.
I have a Netgear Router (WGT624v3). I went to port forwarding and configured it like I normally would. (using for example port 1266-1266 for TCP-UDP).
Found out my new external IP and went to DC++.
Selected "Firewall with manual port forwarding" and entered the selected port on both TCP and UDP.
Left outgoing connections alone (ie on Direct connection).

Tried it and nothing it did not work.

SO I tried a few things and nothing, Then I started reading. Manual for router, DC++ help, DC++ FAQ, the web, forums. Tried a few things more.
All I get is "An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host"

I will say that when I installed originally (earlier today I mean) nothing was comming up with the hub list so I went online and got a new hub list from http://www.hublist.co.uk/
    UK public hublist address

For DC++ clients newer than 0.4033 use
    http://www.hublist.co.uk/hublist.xml.bz2

    For older DC client
    http://www.hublist.co.uk/hublist.config.bz2

My original hublist was http://www.hublist.org/PublicHubList.xml.bz2 but I was getting nothing from that. Look at Image1 for the error msg regarding that

And see Image2 regarding my settings for DC++

    And Image3 for router settings

P.S: I've had DC++ working for years now. Never had a problem setting up (oh well the inicial problem everyone has when they have to do port forwarding for the first time as they get a router for the first time). I have also been trying differant things and also been trying and retrying to connect to hubs for hours now. over 7 to be honest. I have even reinstalled DC++ and redownloaded and then reinstalled again. I have also reset my router 2 times and started from scratch. Not including all the times I have tried differant things.

I'm completely at a loss and I need help. I know I am missing someting but I dont know what.

    Please help :)

Ok, one assumes that no one knows :)

Anyone know of a site (or a couple) where there might be people who would be able to help me? DC++ does not have a forum of its own

DC++ used to be popular...well atleast I knew loads of people who used it back in 2004/2005 but since then they've been alot of raids on alot of warez hubs and its popularity has gone down alot in favor of other types of such as bittorrent

imho bittorrent is much more suited for transfering large files quickly

as such I doubt you'll find much help here....

bittorrent might be an idea. Any ideas on where to start with bittorrent seeing as I have never used it?

bittorrent might be an idea. Any ideas on where to start with bittorrent seeing as I have never used it?

Long and short of it is,
    - get yourself a decent client like azureus* or uTorrent ala http://azureus.sourceforge.net/
    - Change the default bitorrent port in your client to something random like 7766, the reason for this is most trackers block the default one as alot of ISP's block it :)
    - Forward the port on your router to your PC's IP, www.portforwarding.com is a good place to start

Read the FAQ's on the bittorrent clients website and also

If your download azureus then remember to get latest Java and then get the client http://azureus.sourceforge.net/download.php

More info on bittorrent is here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BitTorrent

Once you've done all the , its a matter of finding a legal source to download from, when you do download the .torrent file, open it in your bittorrent client and away you go

Things to remember are the more seeds the better and if there's more peers (leechers as it were) then seeds then things could be abit slow starting off :)

Hub list I'm using is http://www.dc-resources.com/downloads/hublist.config.bz2

I'm picking up about 9500 hubs. Problem is downloading and seaching doesnt work properly anymore since I installed my D-Link wireless router. Tried all manner of port forwarding and still nothing. I then plugged my cable modem directly into my PC and its working fine. I did a bit of googling and found a list of routers that were known to have problems working with DC++ and sure enough mine was on it. So I pretty much gave up then because I need my wireless router more than I need DC++. Tried looking for that list just now and can't find it, sorry.
