british version of skyu guide

Hi my brother has a sky digibox from an old
contract he had. doesn't have it (contract) anymore.

But how does he get rid of the irish version of the guide
and get the british version with all the free channels in a decent order

Its a grundig box

bbc1 101
bbc2 102
itv 103
etc etc..

I'm sure some of you will know!!
Please help

Remove any viewing cards from the box, turn it off. Unplug from the wall. Plug back in and turn on, wait till the EPG loads, booting with the card out it reverts to UK epg..... Thats it!

You wont see Channel 4 or Five on epg, 101 - BBC1 London, 102 - BBC2 London, 103 - ITV 1 Central, etc....

really? thought Sky put a stop to that a few years ago

op, your brother should get a FTV card from the UK. that will give him Channel 4, five (and its 2 spin off channels) and Sky Three

Is there a way of ressetting the box.

How do I force an EPG software download?

Switch off the receiver at the mains wall socket. Press and hold the front panel "backup" button and switch the mains power back on. Continue to hold the button for 20 seconds or until the LEDs all light (depends on the make/model). As soon as this happens, you'll see a message on the screen (only if you have connected via the TV Scart). Leave the receiver for at least 15 minutes to download the software via satellite.

WARNING! Do not touch the little power plug at the back of the receiver while power is applied. If you wiggle this, you can cause electrical arcing (sparks) that may damage the electronics!

Note that this will not work unless the receiver is getting a good signal! DO NOT ATTEMPT IT if your signal or signal quality is very low or fluctuating. On Grundig models, this is often a sign of a power supply fault and attempting a software download can corrupt the internal memory - permanently - making repair impossible or very expensive.

After a forced download you should switch the receiver off at the 230v wall socket for ten seconds. Remove the card. Switch back on. Wait till it asks for the card then insert it. This sequence is occasionally necessary to solve problems caused by the download, although I don't know why! The same sequence repeated a couple of times will often clear unwanted "Personal Planner" entries. However a BETTER method is described in our FREE eBook.

Note that a software download will occasionally change user settings back to factory standard (for example the UHF output channel to 68).

Note that switching the Digibox mains power off can sometimes show up a Power Supply fault which you didn't know it had! Be prepared to get it repaired if it's more than about 18 months old.

put ANY card into slot if you don't have expired Sky card.
Go 501 Sky News
press Red
wait for Interactive
Remove card
Press backup
Wait ..
Now should have UK EPG.

Only works some boxs, usually ones that show Irish EPG even with power on from no card.

May have to repeat if box is unplugged. Not affected by front panel or remote power switch.
