Bonus's at work

Where I work the company does bonuses and it is always the same people who seem to get them. Which is really getting to me. It seems that its always the little pets of the boss on each team where I work who gets the bonuses and nobody else gets a look in. This is not fare in my opinion. The people who do their job the best never get a bonus.

For example on my team one member of the team is a bit of a brown nose. But he refuses to do parts of his job. Leaving me to do my own job and all the bits he refuses to do. There are 3 off us on our team and the other two people have to do the work he just won’t do. He also always comes back late from his breaks which I never do unless I tell the boss I have something to do.

Does anybody else experience this at work where the unworthy get a reward for been a brownnose and the rest get noting.

I used to work in a company like that. It was the main reason why I left really. I wasn't willing to change myself to that extent to 'get on'.

Typically companies tend to regard bonus material as the people who put in 130% all the time, mainly because they are single and don't mind spending time at the office. Having a life is not indicative to a 'model employee'

I was once told, '...you do everything that is required of you, and produce work to a very good standard (I'm smiling at this point)....BUT...we just don't see that extra mile (now confused face?)' .... I wasn't in the bonus pool that year.

In this case, I found that it was the people who took longer to get things done, who gave out vocally in the office and generally was being 'heard' got the bonuses?

I don't know about you but I believe, doing a job well and efficiently and without fuss should be rewarded, as overtime spells problems to me.

I think your problem is in just about every company out there....*some* managers become managers for a reason, and reward people after their own hearts!
