I have a 1GB USB key and i've just deleted everything that was on it to put some new stuff on. Now there's nothing on it but it still says 850MB's are used up, how do i format it or free up all this space?

assuming its OSX, go into the hard drive- applications - utilities -disk utilty. the key should be listed there, select it and then select the erase tab to format.

All you need to do is drag the contents from the USB drive to the bin. Then EMPTY the bin.

Yes, the space is still marked as used until you empty the Trash.
