    Hello,:o :o:o
I have not posted here before, but i thought you may be interested, someone is making a film which requires two male actors with swordsmanship skills, preferably of the Japanese styles but i dont think that is too important as far as i know one of the actors must be asian and one caucasian.

They are also looking for fighters from martial arts backgrounds for combat scenes.
I am not the person making it but if you pm me if you are interested i can hopefully put you in contact with them.

The brief is basically this they are looking for fighters who can act or are willing to try as i understand it.
The asian actor would be playing the part of a samurai.
Basically if you know about stage combat it really is about NOT hurting someone while making it look skilled and keeping the movement in a scene interesting.
The two main fighters mentioned would need some sword skills or stage combat skills.
Other fighters i think just need general combat skills. I think he is looking for skill and experience really.

So give it a go if you think it sounds interesting.:) :)

I am sorry i dont have more info at the momment but i am not involved with the project myself i just volunteered to try to find fighters as i have a little martial arts experience myself and i know where to look.

Unfortunately they are only looking for men this time or i would have gone for it myself.

As for other details i have no idea myself but if you pm me your name, what you do martial arts wise and if you have acted before and a way to contact you i will try to be in touch by tomorrow.

By the way dont be put off if you have not acted before it was said that people who were willing to give the acting a go would be considered.

And i get the impression that they have had trouble finding an Asian male with fighting skills and the character is important so give it a go!

I have no idea whether none of you will reply or ten will but i said i would help this guy out and he seems like a good sort he also has plans for future similar projects.

Sorry i cant give more info but i dont know a lot myself.
    Thanks, Lou.:) :o

    ugh this sounds horribly familiar.

If this guys initials are S.O.N. then stay WELL CLEAR (and i really cant stress that enough). If not, then ignore this but always be aware that there are pitfalls when getting involved in low budget films. Try the film production forums for advice.

I would just like to say that this persons initials are not the ones mentioned above. And yes you are quite right to be cautious i am afraid i cannot vouch for this individual as i do not know him too well myself.

All i can say is that it was posted on the crooked house.com website that is a genuine actors noticeboard and is well known within the acting community, i am a professional actress myself and so i am aware of the pitfalls.

I would like to keep the post here as it is martial arts related if that is ok with people.

Of course it is always worth saying that one should be careful and i thank the above poster for pointing this out.

All i can say is if you are interested than try and if something feels iffy than leave it.

Although i have gone to auditions from this noticeboard for years and have never had a problem yet myself it is always wise to be careful.

Well I have PM'd you Lou.m and if it sounds iffy I'll revisit my plans to make it in Hollywood instead :)

Quiet a few hollywood lead men & women have done martial arts films without a martial arts background. What you should look for is a sword expert to choreograph the fight scenes, said expert will have to train with the actors for a few weeks to get them moving properly (although an actor with some MA expirence, not just with swords, should be able to pick up the stances faster than a non-MA actor)

Thanks peasquasher have pmed you back with the guy's details. And yes unpossilbe that is possible but this guy did specificly ask for fighters and what Mr director says goes:) although what you suggest may happen for some characters i dont know.
It is a good suggestion though thank you. I may pass it on to him. ALthough being an actress myself and having had done a little martial arts i know that i would find it hard in a short space of time to learn a new martial art and i dont know how much this guy has scheduling can be tough.
Although anyone who wants to offer that feel free and i will pass on his details to you i am sure he would be happy to get all the help he needs:) :):)
I hope he appreciates all the cool fighters he is getting usually you end up with us actors making a complete balls of it! ( Except for me of course)

He really is lucky thanks guys anyone else who wishes to try come on dont be shy give it a go :):)

Ah but there is the beauty of it, you (nor any of the actors) will be learning a martial art. What you will be learning is a fight scene.
Look at the guy who starred in "Dragon the Bruce Lee Story", Jason Scott, he had no martial arts experience and he was just taught the moves. Same with various other actors/actresses (there is even an actor in Once upon a time in China, the butcher guy, who has fight scenes but he never learned any martial art, he just learned the one or two scenes and thats that).

So even if you get a TKD guy you can still get him ready for fight scenes by just teaching him the sword fight, its all in the choreography. Some people seem to be under the impression that for fight scenes you simply get two good martial artists and just let them go at it. Donnie Yen has said in interviews that a good fighter won't always do well onscreen because you have to move differently on screen for your moves to look good (as opposed to when you are sparring).

    Just food for thought.

But still henchman number 5 is better then faceless henchman that henchman number 5 keeps standing in front of :)

Ok Pearsquasher i have pmed those details again to you sorry about that. By the way guys swordsmand ship is just one of the skils he is looking for so if you have fighting skills give it a go.
By the way i think he is having trouble finding an east asian fighter who might be able to use a sword so if there are any out there try it:) :)
And you never mind Hammerheadgym he mentioed future projects so maybe next time and it must be great to be in Thailand.
And i guess yes if someone wants to choreograph a fight then great if you can do it but if you can do that then you might as well and try to be in it yourself.
And of course anyone with martial arts experience should try i did not mean to give the impression he was just looking for people with swordskills it was just one thing he mentioned that he needed all others are needed too. Especially those from our Asian community but also any other ethnic groups as he mentioned that apart from one Asian male and one caucasian male all other characters could be of any ethnic origin. So give it a go.

Hi I just eanted to say a big THANK YOU to everyone on the forum for helping on this one and especially to the people who went for it i wish you all much look and i hope it works out for you.:) :):)

RAMBO 4 Hmmm... looks like rocky will be busy :)

Although i have to say i am disappointed with the level of action films from America now more than ever and there are so few of them. I mean i love drama i really do i love theatre but Asia really shows how artistic martial arts can be and makes it really interesting.
I just saw Jackie Chans the young master and it is like two highly skilled dancers kicking the s***t out of each other it is beautiful aswell as them being amazing fighters.

I dont think America respects martial arts or physical movement enougyh to do it well they tend to think that Wushu movies are full of people whose knuckles drag against the ground. They just look at the plot and go HMMM:cool: they dont get it these are great ATHLETES and artists you dont look at the plot of the nutcracker and go HMMM:cool: you say wow what artistry. I think Bruce Lee was the only one who tried to get this through to American Audiences and maybe to some extent Jackie Chan.

It is wonderful to have you Becket, your Ibsen, your Greek tragedy or your Shakespear. I love them all but you cant go to a film that has an art, (whether it be traditional or modern or mixed martial arts i still consider them to be artistic and creative as well as a fighting sport) being practised by someone who has devoted so much to learing it and say HMMM:cool:

Anyway that was a bit ranty sorry it just annoys me.

I look forward to seeing Rambo though. And when is Rush Hour 3 coming out or have i missed it? ANd did anyone see the film Bobby? It looks so interesting although this is very off topic Ooops:o

    Anyway thank you to all

Where is this movie to be filmed?

I maybe interested in getting involved, though I wouldn't have any swordmanship skills I am a TKD practitioner and have over 3 years experience of amatuer (sp??) stage acting.

OP can you PM me on any details you may have please.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,532 ✭✭✭Lou.m

    HI Guys ,
THe Director now have all the caucasian characters he needs so a very big THANK YOU :):) to all who became involved.

However we are still looking for asian Martial artists who could play a samauri and a Ninja i know chinese and Japanese people really do not look alike and come from totaly different ethnic backgrounds but we must improvise so any guys out there who are east asian please give it a go the director is finding it really hard to find people. So you may get the best part just for showing up really.

And CHUN HOY FAT CHOY!!!:) :):):):):p

Modern day martial arts movies have a weak plot these days.I have an idea that I wrote a year back, sort of a scriptas it were its basically a present day Ireland fiction mythology type movie ,mixed with martial ats,raw fighting.
the story starts is about the great flood that happened in the black sea going back bible time when noah sent his grandaughter to Ireland to stay safe. like I said it focuses on the first invasion in Ireland.the story goes what I made up is a giant meteor caused the flood and a second smaller meteor hit ireland.the ancient people found the meteor and they also found that it had secret substance that they used for healing, knowlege, and warfare Time Travel plus other puposes.when used in battle it gave warriors incredible strength speed Etc.the second part starts in present day Ireland this substance is discovered in a excavation dig and kept by authorities, but one night it gets stolen by baddies. the bad guy use as a diluted drug which gives users increased strength awarness speed etc like an incredible high, brain damage is the side effect and organ problems. in the third part the people from the past are aware that it has been discovered, and it is effecting the laws of time as it were. so they send warriors and wisemen like druid or wizard in to the future or present day Ireland to retrive the substance and restore balance. how the substance got discovered in the first place was that eveil forces or beings put it there as a way to effect time and cause chaos its a battle with the supernatural, and ancient people plus modern day characters .
it explores the dark the supernatural etc.it goes on and on like a crazed harry potter 28 days later zombie sort of thing ,but dont think zombie thats overdone.thats basically it, but could you imagine if someone did try to make it would bring back to life something we once had,not the stereotype Irish guinness drunk fella falling ot of a pub on his backside at three in the day.
it would show that we had great wisemen warriors mythology culture Etc one a long time ago.

A finnish guy tried to do something similar with mixed results (well to be honest Ive only heard bad things about it but I think some critics liked it).

I would like to see an Irish mythology film, but I would rather it was based on one of our legends using old western style fighting instead of some kind of Asian/Modern hybred.

Than again that could just be me :D

Which part of our ancient culture involved time travelling to the future to prevent substance abuse?

He's right! It IS very easy to insult people! Man I'm going to have to do this more often.

I love the way our ancient culture involved aliens and stuff. We went on a school tour to the giant alien super meteor when we were kids, made me proud it did. Brought a tear to my heart and made my eye skip a beat.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 396 ✭✭The Bored One

Everyone knows Tir Na Nog was founded using alien technology, and that the Salmon of Knowledge was in fact a mutant caused by the radioactive waste of the alien starship. It was only with the aid of the Greys that Cuchulainn was able to battle off the zombie apocalypse with his traditional Celtic blaster cannon.

Why does anyone need to mess around with the old stories anyway? The heroes have warp-spasms and turn into beserk killing machines. That doesn't really require tinkering.

    greetings

any movie, be it action or whatever is all about presentation storyline plot.
like I said before I just presented an idea for discussion.
mythology is myth and when I mentioned the great flood struck that black sea
there is no evidence how it happened.so a fiction story makes up where that was lost, please note if we look up the annals of the four masters in celtic pre christian history it describes an interesting timeline that is immense and boundless its a gold mine of information to learn about our own or european gaul culture we have an incredible history something to be proud of so we should explore it more and in the future express it more...and create a martial arts movie.
