Going to Aintree

I'm going to Aintree, obviously flying is the easy way to get there, but I'll be spending enough money and the flights are looking fairly dear. Can you get the ferry as a walk on passenger, coz on the P & O website it won't let you go Dublin - Liverpool as a "foot passenger". Anyone done this before?

I was looking at this myself yesterday and the best way is to fly to East Midlands with Ryanair for €50 and rent a car. The airport is about 1.5 hours drive from Liverpool.
M<arriott hotel is available for €180 a room per night.
Forget about the ferry. It takes an awful long journey and the times are stupid.

Edit: The prices for the flights above are flying over at 8am on Saturday and returning Sunday at 1pm.

looked at this option as well, fancied the sessiun on the ferry!! but cant find any ferry company taking foot passangers. Thought it might save a nights accom and drop me off in the centre of liverpol nice and early on the thursday morn. looking at flying to blackpool or manchester on cheep cheep flights and catching the train for €20. Obviously loads of time on me hands!!
By-passing chelt this year for Aintree. never been before. does anyone know if you actually need tickets or is it as easy as chelt??

We went a couple of years ago using the Bus Eireann service - you leave from bus aras, go on as a foot passenger and get a bus from holyhead to liverpool on arrival. gets you into liverpool about 4am so you'd need accomodation sorted to let you in at that time.

would highly recommend the weekend though. nearly worth going on the thursday night to get the fridays racing as well. great train service out of liverpool to aintree.
