Just heard that Kieran Lewis (Leinster) is confirmed for Munster next year and so is Paul Warrick (Connacht). Anyone got info on the contract Lengths?

    bollix. :D

i really really rate lewis. He would have been a better player than BOD till he did his knee in too:(

Munster will have at least one decent outside back now....that could be real trouble for the rest of us.

Good signing for munster. Murphy, Warwick and Lewis could all do very for munster next season.

Perhaps the Kearney rumpour was untrue or Chinese whipers turned it from Lewis to Kearney.

Or pehaps as with the Jennings then Cullen news the following week, we will here Rob is gpoing south too next week or 2?

Lewsi get Eff all games at leinster and this has to bee good for him. Plyed along side Murphy on Fri night too for the As.

    Thats not confirmed is it?
Anyways no one has any clue to the length of contracts? Hope this isnt a quick fix job of a 1year deal sorta thing.

Sorry to see lewis go alright. Munster are really on a player hunt at the moment they have made an offer to All Black Doug Howlett

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,199 ✭✭✭✭Sangre

Howlett? Lol. Can't see a 1st string NZ going anywhere soon (except Major )

Lewis is a great nab for Munster and a good move for him. He never got game-time.

Is Howlett still first choice? Is he still in the squad? Maybe after the World Cup he might come north as his days in the black are numbered.

I said 1st string as he is certainly there or there abouts. Of course, there doesn't seem to be a 1st choice winger in NZ, they nearly always mix it up.

But if Howlett actually made it to Munster, holy crap, watch out!

Yep Howlett like many of NZ's big guns is out of contract and is considering his options. Munster have made him an offer, cant get the article cause im in work right now. Unfortunately Howlett like cullen has lots of injury problems. Sounds perfect for munster!

Pondering foreign offers often means hes looking for a better offer at home.

p.s. I must sound like a broken record but please don't let them take Kearney!

Still can't believe Mauger is going, hes was pretty much 1st choice 12.

Not for much longer, Luke McAllister will be starting 12 for the RWC, but I rate Mauger as much as anyone

It makes sense that Lewis is going to Munster instead of going to the Likes of Sale or Saracens or some mediocre English team. Look at the success of Stephen Keogh and Trevor Hogan going to Leinster. There's no shame in either of those two players not being able to make the Munster team and they're definitely further up the Irish pecking order now that they're playing regularly in the big games in the Magners League and in the Heineken Cup.
I remember Ciaran Cronn writing an article last in the Sunday Tribune how more players should move within Ireland rather than going to France or England.
Wouldn't it be great if someone like Eoin Reddan was playing regularly with Leinster. I mean what is Chris Whitaker, a washed up Australian international, going to offer Irish rugby at this stage.
Likewise the likes Peter Bracken would be better off playing with Leinster than Stan Wright, David Quinlan with Munster instead of Northampton, Ian Humphries with Connacht rather than Leicester.
Anyway, Lewis is a great talent and looks like a great signing for Munster

First line of that article contains the telling phrase 'post world cup future' so none of these guys is going anywhere until 2008 at the earliest. By which time there probably won't be a Heineken Cup anyway.

There will probably be the bones of two full All Black teams looking for employment in Europe next year after the World Cup. Win or lose the Blacks will be looking to build for the next world cup so there will be a LOT of top class players surplus to requirements. So expect to see the bones of the All Black world cup squad plying their trade in France and England from 2008.

He wont be. Mauger is in the 22 "conditioning" squad for the All blacks. This is a pretty good indicator of how Graham Henry rates him and guarantees a spot in the 12 jersey (injury aside).

Luke McAllister wont be starting at 12 because he is a utility back. He can play outhalf, which means that if Dan Carter gets injured, the All Blacks have a solid replacement.

As a Leinster fan, I'm sorry to see Lewis go. But at least its to an Irish side rather than abroad. With more regular playing time esp in HC he should become the back up man for BOD and D'arcy in Irish XV. He's got the pace, great defence and a few tricks.

Not enough Irish front rowers you say ? Well Bristol have signed Bracken and Ray Hogan (Connaght) - http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/rugby_union/my_club/bristol/6361107.stm

Bloody hell, another player lost for Connacht.

It's a real pity Hogan has gone to the GP. It may do no harm in the long-term, he is still a young guy, but he looks as promising as any young Irish prop (maybe Hurley aside). Hopefully he'll be back at some point.
