    Hi Folks,

I am considering selling my Heckler & Koch 9mm USP Custom Sport in order to buy a Sig X5, can anyone advise -

Is it as straight forward as agreeing the sale with someone, giving them the serial number & then completing the cash for firearm transaction on sight of a valid Firearms Licence issued by the Gardai with the correct serial number? Do I need to notify the Gardai as to the new owners details (a bit like a car) or does the whole thing need to be done via a dealer?

If anyone has any interest in the USP itself then PM me.

See the forum charter. Civdef might post a note here about the paperwork though, if he's in a kind mood...

There's no problem with a private sale - once the new owner has a valid licence for the gun, you can hand it over happily, the guards will be fully aware of the firearm details at that point.

Might be a good idea to write up a bill of sale for both individals to sign, to confirm the transfer took place.

If one was a very cautious, they might like to confirm with their local guards that the person they're selling to has a valid licence and not just something photoshopped (wouldn't be hard to do).

The only problem with private sales is you can end up delayed replacing your own gun due to the time it can take for the seller to get a licence for the gun they're buying off you - which is why it can often be handy to go through a dealer, most of whom will sell a gun for you on a commission basis, and remove any delays from this source.
