Lad's are these good value and quality roses...

Went to a florists and quoted €125 for similar roses and for that you could have a nice meal and a good few drinks...

    Best Bunch in Lidl €34.99

Or am I being a cheap skate  :p

No, you're not being a cheapskate. It's always good to minimise your exposure to taxes; that's especially true of the Feb 14th "girlfriend/wife tax".

You're definitely not being a cheapskate. €125 just for flowers that are going to wither in a few days is extortionate. I'd be really annoyed with my boyfriend if he spent that much money on flowers.

From my understanding of business, I’d say it’s possible the two products could be the same thing. A florist is a specialist, luxury goods provider who has a low bulk buying power, a low stock turnover and relatively high expences/profit margin. Lidl and Aldi are huge international players with high bulk buying power, high stock turnover and relatively low expences/profit margin. Also, the laws of demand and supply could allow florists to add exceptionally high profit margins just for Valentines Day.

In summary, I’d say it’s not entirely inconceivable that the two sets of roses could have come from the same plantation. The difference could easily be just a huge profit margin.

(Obviously, only a thought. I’ve no evidence to back it up)

Roses for Valentine's day are so predictable — why not get her something a little more original?

I find a good, sturdy ironing board is always met with great surprise. :)

I was contemplating the Ironing board but the thought of a Sawn Off Shotgun and my knee caps kinda swayed the decision :p

Lidle roses are better than aldi roses... Much better. Florist roses are better than both and will last a bit longer but up to you weather its work the extra €70+... My mam owns a florist, tis how i knows.. The roses in Lidl are near enough the same quality..

As for €125, thats crazy... €70-100 max is what you'd pay in a florist n they should last upto and over 3 weeks if taken care of.. Expect to pay a premium if u walk into a florist on wed tho n try to buy roses....

marks and spencer are the best value i have seen. they have 12 grand prix roses for 50 euro. cant beat that! same roses that interflora are selling for 125!!!

I do not like getting flowers, such a waste.. i generally get something that you can actually plant and will grow. Get a rose bush thats in bloom (if possible this time of year) and then plant it in the garden after the big day.

well, if 'it's the thought that counts' really means anything, she should be happy with bunch of a thistles, if that's what you decide.

OTH, if WHAT you give becomes important - or more importantly, the price of what you give - then she's in insincere one, not you........in which case, gf v2.0, anyone? ;)

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

Must say I am very impressed with the 12 Roses from Lidl. They are that deep red and the flower is lovely and full, I also picked up a bunch of Lilys which were still closed and mixed them in. Got home and presented them in a vase along with a box of her favourite chocolates all for €45. While I understand most lads dont like being suckered into anything this is the one time of the year you have to pucker up and kiss the bandwagon machine.

    Nah, was only joking.

Mind you, might try testing her with thistles next year ...
