joking aside, saying "Team Captains are now liable for full payment €600 + €80" is ridiculous if i have interpreted this correctly. That is to say if our team doesnt show up, lloyd as team captain will have to pay 680 even if we dont play. wouldnt it be funny if card clubs did this, say i posted on boards that i intended to play the jackpot 100+10 game but then never showed up and the jackpot came after me for 110... lol... and i'd also love to see someone try and make the captain of a team that doesnt turn up pay 680. i hope i've misinterpreted this.

So what should happen, if you feel like getting out of the bed on Sunday and feel like travelling down to Waterford for a game that everything will be there in place & ready to suit you. Thats if you feel like it.
Hotel has to be booked & paid for, food arranged, dealers contracted & paid for showing up, if players fail to show, how long do the orgainisers wait to see if they will arrive. They then have to re arrange teams to suit those players who verbally entered and then didn't show.

This is exactly what happened in the team event in City West last year and delayed the proceedings by over 3 hours.

Your word to play should be like a verbal bet, it stands.

If you've paid in advance you'll get out of the bed.

No jeff u didnt , This is why teams are Pre Booked and paid for as for the Dublin Teams we are giving them the benefit of paying on the day as there a huge amount of planning involved in this not like a singles event where we would not have captains to start with , With Other Teams Trying to get in I think it is only fair that when u Pre BooK Tickets U also commit to payment

If u Make an example of The JACKPOT , I say what if i am goin to a concert and i i ask mcd to hold 4 tickets do u think they would say ah sure dont worry about it if u cant make it , U still have to fork out the money we have dealers food and Print to set up for this and thats the reason .It will be me who follows it up Jeff if a team does not show .. It is unfair on other players involved if there is a no Show -

i'd written a fairly long reply but my laptop is all fecked... neil dont worry i fully intend to play, i'll be there with lloyd anto and donal in tow. main point of my reply is that if you only have 54 teams and there are 6 no shows you wont payout 3600 extra and expect the no shows to pay after for a tourney the didnt play in and basically running tourneys is a business risk, and by the looks of things the weekend will probably be quite profitable.

i'm not having a go at you or anything... i'll be there with bells on and i'll get a pre-emptive positive word in of a tourney well run! :p

    .

basically, yes. organisers should start a tourney on time, be there 5 teams or 50. booking the hotel, staff, food is a calculated business risk. to use the mcd concert example- years back gary barlow was booked to play the olympia, mcd (didnt have to book the venue as they own it but..) had to book staff, could not hire out the venue that night, had to book gary barlow, had to pay for his hotel and travel, and his bands hotel and travel, they put tickets on sale for 30+ euro, and sold a massive six tickets and canceled the gig and lost money, if the event sold out they;d have been happy. equally with this team event, there are costs, there is a break even point, i.e a certain number of team entries... the organisers have taken a risk, they have booked staff etc etc if 2 teams show up, their event loses money, if it sells out, they make money. its business.

to be fair to neil you could say it is a business risk of a dealer to turn up on the night to work and not get any, like you were complaining about before... i think its fair to try to have everything finalised for a team event especially, and if you are going to be playing anyway whats the problem. you dont have love a good moan jeff....

They sold SIX tickets to Gary Barlow? Wow can we NAME and SHAME! (the other 5)

Well good news for you, Boyzone will be starting off their reunion gig in the point depot. Rumours are that TWELVE tickets have been sold in advance sales. (eat yer heart out Barlow)

As for the team event, if you book a team (ticket) for something like this and not turn up. It should incur a penalty

I think payment in advance for something like this is fairly standard and acceptable too as there are a limited number of places which need to be booked in advance. It is not fair to the organisers if people reserve a spot and don't turn up when the organisers could have got someone in their place. I think if it was a 'space not an issue' event then it wouldn't be right to ask people to pay up front.

Quick question, if there is a couple of no-shows and you manage to track them down and get outstanding money, where will this go as it will not be part of prize pool (on the day)

i know you will have overheads etc....

But it would help your profit margins :D

We pay 100% excluding reg fees - The Typo is just to make sure the captains make an effort as we have done - I know jeff is right it will be hard tracking captains for money - Think we should be alright i have confirmed 58 teams now just waitin to confirm 2 others
