Just wondering if anyone has used these cards on the one PC at the same time.I am using a SS1 on a Pentium 1.4 at the moment without any problems but would like to add a SS2.Would the processor be fast enough?Would the new 8820 in Aldi on Thurs be fast enough for this purpose? http://www.medion.de/md8820/uk . It has no modem or floppy though and doesn't say how many free pci slots there are.

I ran an SS2 on a P3 550MHz PC, however I did have problems, as the likes of ProgDVB would not run, only old versions of DVBviewer.

The Medion you mention would have no trouble running a Skystar2. Looking at images of the back of the Medion, it has 2 free PCI slots (click Connections link).

Skystar1 will run on a P90. It only uses CPU to change channel.

SS2 will work well on a good 933MHz PIII. For HDTV (SS2 unsuitable), at least a 2GHz and graphics card with HDTV TV out recommended.

SS2 should be OK on almost all new PCs. Switch off All XP or Vista "eycandy" so it looks like NT4/Win98 and no animation of icons/ menues etc to get best performance. Minimum running in Task bar.

Get rid of AV sw as it often does not work, simply don't open unsoliced attachements, evenm from people you know (a virus/trojan will use from addresses you know, and may be from a person who has your address and the other from address in their emails).
AV SW really slows a PC as does lots of stuff in task tray. I've been installing stuff on my laptop for 5 years and all I have in my task tray are:
WiFi network icon (not helper application)
    Sound Mixer
    Remove Hardware
    Bluetooth
    Clock.

Just to warn you, theres probably only 1 slot free - the one beside the AGP is likely to be full of graphics card heatsink. Its not a shared slot though, you can use it - I did when I had an old Radeon in that case, and its now has the fan unit/second backplane of my 6800 Ultra in it.

The case also has horrific cooling (mine gets to 42c air temperature under load) - it will make your room uncomfortably warm; and the DVB-T card it provides is deaf as a doorpost and has crap drivers.

Thanks for the info.I think the last post post has put me off buying for the moment! I will look for something similar but with more free slots and better cooling.
