cloning display with projector only get video on one?

The problem is that when connecting projector to the laptop and watching a movie- within the application window playing the movie, i just get a black screen on either display depending on cloning combination set in nvidia control panel.

I can see the destop just fine on both the projector screen and laptop, it's just black within the window of whatever player i'm using, be it Windows Media Player, VLC player, WinAMP, whatever.i.e i only get video on one display not both.

Setting the display mode to: Dual (instead of Clone) gives same result

i thought it might be battery power issue but recharged it and tried again with plug in but same thing.

any ideas?

might be a case that the graphics card or drivers are only able to use overlay on one display at a time. I've had a similar problem getting good quality video from my graphics card, only the primary/default display get good video quality

I used to have exactly the same problem with some version of Media Player. Can't actually remember how I fixed it though

Isn't WinAmp just a skin for WMP's decoder?
What happens if you use an independant decoder like PowerDVD?

Anyhow, rest assured its a software problem.
Try updating everything in sight.

Are you the same user as op? guess so
heres the text from the current nvidia driver release notes, so it's the hardware overlay and not using fullscreen video mirror

Problem
With nView Clone or Span mode enabled, video playback appears on only
one display under the following conditions:
•Under nView Clone mode, when fullscreen video mirror is not used.
•Under nView Span mode, when fullscreen video mirror is not used and the
video is positioned to span across both monitors.

Explanation
With applications that render using the hardware overlay—such as DirectX
applications—the default driver behavior for Release 60 is to enable the
hardware overlay when nView Clone or Span mode is enabled.

Because the driver supports only one hardware overlay, the video appears on
only one display.

gave it a go

the options outlined/screens in the link you posted .......i.e to enable full screen mode werent in the nvidia control panel when i clicked on advanced tab

there was an option to do with video overlay, i changed the settings on that to full and that done it

hopefully these settings will remain and wifes dvd presentation for work will go off without hitches
