Anyone suggest which is the best/economical mobile phone 2 use while travelling between countries. EG. UK 2 Ireland 2 USA 2 Auz & ret. Not necessarily swanky. Would a change of sim card 4 each country be advisable?.

Three would cover Irl, UK, Hong Kong & Oz with no receiving costs and call costs to Irish landlines exactly as if you were in Ireland.

USA is the only one that this does not apply to, but there are plenty of pay phones on every corner in USA.
