Anybody notice how weird John Inverdale is looking lately? Last week he looked like a drag queen he had so much make-up on. He looks incredibly gaunt also, is he ill?

He was attacked by a thug last year.
His face was slashed with a knife and he obviously has suffered physically and mentally since.
    Nice chap.

He looked as if he had a heavy night last night! Not a pretty sight BUT beats McGurk et al hands down.

He was the victim of a stamping incident over a year ago in a veterans rugby match, got 10 stitches, but has been fine since....but he did look strange today.... Didn't hear of a mugging incident?

petty we could not have a sport anchor man like him for rte, mr versaility. did a great coverage to shut anyone on the history and heritage board who feared the british would not have much knowledge on croker's history.

I agree. He's obviously a bloke who likes doing his background work, not just on rugby. I can recall the BBC's coverage of all the political upheaval which led to the downfall of Albert's government and the arrival of John Bruton as Taoiseach, back in the nineties. Inverdale was particularly good as an interviewer, well-informed and well able to explain what was a fairly tricky business to listeners who, in many cases, would have known nothing about Irish politics.

Apart from that one time, he always came across as a pleasant and witty person, but well able to ask tough questions. He made a great afternoon combination with Sybil Ruscoe, former presenter of cricket on Channel 4.

While I think he's good on the telly, I don't think he'll ever shine on it quite like he did/does on the radio.

He has a degree in history so he's interested in it I'd imagine :)

ah well so long as he continues to do his job well and is entertaining that is all we ask for. no need for flashy anchormen who want to be the centre of attention.

Whatever about Inverdale, and what a great job he did with Croker btw, does anyone know who'll commentating on Super Saturday? There is another thread about Jim Sherwin but I thought I'd keep it current.

I'm concerned that he won't be back to do one the games and RTE will use the guy they used for the A match on Friday. You know, the one that sounded like he was reading mass

I miss Jim. He was a good commentater and got genuinely excited and added to the athmos... Bring em back

That was Gary Moran, wasn't it? I would reckon that as he got the A game, he will commentate on the littlest match on Super Saturday.

Yes, John Inverdale was on "This Week" on RTÉ Radio 1 today, saying that the Brits don't know what happened over here before independence. Its never taught in school.
