Just want to share my experience on selling a Mobile on eBay. I First listed it with an auction and buy it now, within 40 mins i was getting emails from "the wholesalers" Of course i was replying saying no!
Then somebody with 7+ feedback Buys my Item through Buy it now and starts sending me the terrible fake Paypal of payment and asking to ship to Nigeria.
This happened 4 times in 4 different Auctions! What am i doing wrong i did write I will not ship to nigeria and all the usual, now i owe eBay 40 Euro in selling fees!![/qouote]

How can you tell the paypal is fake?, Im new to all this and wanted to sell:o

If you are selling on ebay and you have been messed around ,can you not claim for loss of profit due to depreciation??
Sounds odd ,that ebay would let someone bid on something without them having a valid paypal account:(,especially from certain parts of the world.

I didn't realise it was so easy to mess around in Ebay.

I'm confused by this bit, what does it mean exactly?

Did you even contact Ebay? They have a very good customer service.

First, report dodgy emails. eBay ban those accounts (if its the type Im thinking where they offer you goods if you visit their website. Often far east companies, electronics on offer... these guys target mobile/gadget/electrics ebay listings) Never reply to them.
A lot of people dont like the ebay toolbar, but at least it shows when your on the proper eBay and PayPal sites, so worth having from that point of view. Watch your auctions, and cancel bids from areas you dont ship to.

Lastly, contact eBay, explain your story, and hopefully you may get relist credit and end value credits.

Ive been selling for a while now, and havent had this problem. But then I dont sell electronics or mobiles.

*Re: the fake paypal. Doesnt your My eBay show when a valid paypal payment has gone thru?

Emails from scammers who'll direct you to their website (often rubbish but sometimes quite professionally done) where you can buy every electronic item you've ever heard of at massively discounted prices. Hell they even managed to sell PS3s at a third of their value 6 months before the thing was launched!

There's a really simple rule when it comes to these kind of things..... if it seems too good to be true...

I notice car scams are becoming rife too, usually of a 'buy it now' nature where the price is around a third of what it should be and when you email them you find out the car will be 'shipped' to you for free once you send them the cash via 'ebays trusted system' (cue more dodgy looking emails purporting to be from ebay).

    Thanks for that Bluehair.

Does the same apply to those e-books about dvd wholesales or is there some truth to them?

And for the love of God, don't click on any links in the email to get to your account. I think that Firefox and/or Internet Explorer have an option to use a "phishing" filter to check that you're not at an address like:

A lot of people don't like to use Paypal for various reasons, it would be completely unfair for eBay to insist that all customers use their own payment provider.

Anyhow, I would suspect that many of the scams can be carried out regardless of whether the scammer has a paypal account or now.

One quite common scam is for the person to register an eBay account, and either buy or sell a few very cheap items. These will be sold / bought properly and s/he will build up good feedback. The account is then left dormant for a while so when you view their feedback, the links to the ebay items that were bought/sold are not available, so it's very hard for you to tell if they are genuine bidders or not. In fact, if you have the time - and these people do - you could just set up a load of accounts and "buy and sell" between them all to build up the feedback.

If you're selling a mobile phone on eBay, I would highly recommend that you strengthen your Buyer Block Requirements. You can edit these by going to your Preferences in My eBay. You can block certain buyers who don't have a credit card on file on their account or block buyers who don't have a PayPal account. This should block most or all Nigerian scammers from bidding on your mobile phone.

You can also set up your Buy It Now listing to be Immediate Payment Required. This means that if the buyer selects Buy It Now, the listing will not end until the buyer has properly paid you through PayPal. You can select this in the part of the Sell Your Item form where you select the payment methods you offer.

Also, if the winner of your phone is a scammer, they'll probably be NARU (not a registered user) soon enough. When this happens, you can file an Unpaid Item Dispute and receive and immediate Final Value Fee refund. See:

I'm selling my first item ,I won't ship unless my paypal account is credited.
Is there anyway I can be ripped off ,if I operate this way.

Just make sure you have proof of delivery, so the buyer cant claim not to have recieved the item. Otherwise hopefully you wont have any problem. I know you see a lot of complaints and issues mentioned, but 99% of the time eBay works smoothly.
