Anyone connect a mac pro to the net wirelessly using some thing other then the airport extreme option.

The price to get the airport extreme card fitted(135euro) is a bit off putting as is the track up to Dublin to get it fitted....

Are the usb dongles or pci cards an option worth following up and if yes is there anything that you'd recommend.

    135 euro?? That's crazy!

I don't know about USB/PCI options but I think it might be cheaper to just buy another wireless router and connect it directly.

Can't you just pop it in yourself? With the previous PowerMac's, you certainly could. Also, you can get the D-Link USB dongle for peanuts, and the drivers are already in OS X, so no need to install anything!

No, the current Extreme card that Apple sells isn't compatible with the Mac Pros, must contact Authorized Apple Provider, etc, etc.

135 euro is a bit steep however. Did Apple give you that quote, OP?

Quote was from Mactivate in Blanchardstown. 85 for the card and 50 to install it. The card has to be installed by a authorised dealer but I thought it a bit steep compared to the old airport cards that are selling on the apple site.

Would I get the same performance from a the usb/pci options? It has to be a wireless link as the mac is in a room at the back of the house...

Turns out that mactivate don't open at the weekends. Its starting to become a chore trying to get this thing connected to the net.

Anyone able to point me in the direction of a committable pci or usb card?

Also has anyone used one of these? Do they give the same performance as airport extreme?

    Thanks in advance....
