Sportingbet have decided to close Paradise Poker because of the drop in liquidity due to losing the American players. Now Sportingbet always had another poker site on the Boss network so they think they can migrate their Paradise players to that, which will be a spectacular failure. Anyhoos Paradise is no more, a site which was the 3rd biggest in the world 2-3 years ago.

I used to play a lot on Paradise a year ago and just had a look at it again recently . It was a complete desert in terms of no of players \tourneys etc. compared to pre legislation days.

No matter what you think of the yanks (fat fcukin' ignorant kunts) but the revenue they generated for on-line poker was huge.

Yeah, The online poker market hasn't half dipped due to the Americans being unable to play bar Full Tilt, Poker Stars, UltimateBet & Bodog.

...and to be honest its only a matter of time before they fall into line.

We've now got Tribeca moving over to iPoker come 1st March with no Americans allowed. Another network they can't play on top of Paradise, Party, Mansion, William Hill etc.

Is the 1st of March definite fro the merger? Is it likely that it will be set back due transition problems? Or is it no Americans are allowed on 1st march?

Wow, this is really sad. I started out with Paradise, had my first 4 figure cash in a tournament there. Had my first poker check sent in the post from Paradise. :(

This was destined to happen though. They did nothing with the site in the last 2 years.

Stars, FullTilt, etc. all still have loads of Yanks playing. Is Tribeca really closing down to Americans? That sucks. When is Stars likely to close the doors to yanks?

Isnt it amazing how FT seems to be tiptoeing through the minefield of arrested directors, seized funds, clampdowns etc. I suppose it could be because they arent a publically quotes company but the cynic in me says it may have something more to do with them being an american owned company while all the high profile busts and seizures have been non-american companies...

It just means that when they finally cop on and reopen america for business there will be another gold rush of companies to sign up players. Of course, the majority will stay with their american sites keeping the american tax dollars.... in america.

    DeV.

If Mandelson (the European Commissioner for Trade) makes a complaint America will tell him to **** off. The EU can't even enforce its freedom of trade laws in relation to gambling within its own bloc, which has McCreevy bringing various European countries to court. By the way Charlie is a poker player :)

What is the EU gonna do, complain to the World Trade Organisation? America will say it is protecting its citizens from online gambling like they did in the Antigua case at the WTO. Now America has pretty much lost that case left, right, and centre but has ignored the fact that it has. They were found to be ignoring it 2 weeks ago by the WTO. When the final ruling comes in in a couple of weeks Antigua will be able to impose sanctions on the US...which is kinda like allowing a butterfly to punch a blue whale.

If the EU is dumb enough to take the case to the WTO it will likely be wrapped up there for years by which time America will probably have repealed the legislation and regulated online gambling with Harrah's, MGM, and Sands hoovering up the US customers from the razed playing field.

LOL. Europe is NEVER gonna be able to tell the US what to do.

Our only hope is that greedy GWB introduces some new legislation that allows for online pokerrooms based in the good ol' US of A. The only reason they were outlawed was because they were filtering money out of the US economy.

It was the first place that I played also. I think I still have some cash with them. Interestingly, I haven't got an email from them in months. Is liquidity really an issue for an established poker site?
