Hi Folks, I've a Roland XV-88 keyboard. The piano sounds on it are relatively decent but just dont hit the spot. I just don't find them rich enough and most lack vibrance for live work. I'm considering buying the Concert Piano (SRX-02) expansion card. I'm just wondering if anybody has any experience with this card, and if they could tell me what the piano patches are like - good, bad or more of the same. I'd like to hear any feedback anyone may have before I shell out three hundred euro on it.

    Thanks in advance.

On the roland us site, there is a demo of the different SRX cards with samples of a few of the sounds. I went for the SRX-11 (Complete Piano) based on that. Couldn't be happier with it.

Thanks for that g_man. I'll try it on my computer at home later as I'm in work at the moment and don't really want to draw attention to my, er, unauthorised surfing :D

I didn't know the SRX-11 was available. I'd heard about the SRX-02 a few years back and just googled it directly. The fact that there are now two available just adds more confucsion to my impending upgrade!!!!

Did you manage to try the SRX-02 before purchasing the SRX-11? If so how did they compare?

My next problem is that both my SRX expansion slots are taken with SRX-07 and SRX-08. Which one am I going to remove - decisions, decisions AARRGHHH!!!!

I bought it in musicmaker, where they had a few in stock last time I was in, but they didn't have SRX-02. SRX-12 (Classic EPs) is out too.
It might be worth checking e-bay and the like for an XV-5080, which has four spaces for SRX cards if you have a little extra to invest in this.

Or if you have a LOT extra:

Thanks again g_man. I might head into Music Maker and see if they'll let me try both of them out before buying. What did you pay for yours in MM? IIRC, I paid €320 for each of my other cards about 2 years ago.

I'd love an XV-5080 and an RD-700 (just to go overboard!) as a controller but funds don't allow at the moment! What I like most about the XV-5080 is the ability load up samples. I use the XV-88 for gigging and while it's heavy, it means less setting up. The XV-88 does everthing I need. I've enough gear to lug around (2 keyboards, stand, mic stand, amps etc, etc) without adding to my load!

I don't really use the SRX-08 much so I might take it out and sell it off - I'll still have the JV patch set loaded that came on the CD-ROM with the expansion card.

I've listened to the samples on the Roland US site. And I have to say, I'm leaning toward the SRX-11. Really nice rock piano.
