NEC dominate the dvd rom market?

    would it be fair to say the NEC dominate the dvd rom market? Im doing a project and having looked at various websites dell pcworld etc it seems that all the computers come with a NEC DVD rom/RW. I'd appreciate your opinions!

    No they don't but the market has consolidated into only a few partners.

    LG
    Toshiba\Samsung
    NEC\Sony\Pioneer
    Lite-On\BenQ\Philips

    The biggest market share is between Lite-On as they swallowed up a few big competitors and smaller ones and LG who have a very extensive retail and OEM presence.

    I don't have the exact numbers but I think LG is still on top but Lite-On moved up to second place after they bought BenQ.

    The NEC/Sony cabal known as Sony/NEC Optiarc is in third or fourth place.
