Was in Dunnes Stores (Tallaght) last night and came across a massive box of chocolates, very posh looking with roses on the cover, in the Polish food section. I paid a massive €2.99 for a box. (haven't tried them yet tho'...)

    Great Valentine's present ;)

Until the missus spots them in dunnes herself!!

You can get mild mustard in the polish section in tescos, it is absolutely gorgeous, I am ashamed to say I ate an entire jar in one sitting it is so nice. Lots of stuff seems cheap, but only god and the polish know whats in it. One jar looked OK then I saw and english sticker on it, pickled tripe...

I spent about 1/2 hour looking at the ingredients of products in the new Polish section of our local Tescos. I can't saw I would have bought the products. A product that has 25% cow stomachs some how put me off!! When I looked in the jar I think I could see them, they looked like a chopped up starfish.

Well it's no worse than some of the crap we get here. As you mentioned use your eyes and read the english sticker and you shouldn't end up poisoning yourself. Some of the Polish foods can be very tasty, while others leave alot to be desired.
Tesco do a box of vanilla chocolate covered marshmallow thingies from a famous polish chocolate maker called Wedel. They are €3.99 and are delicous.

Alot of other cultures find Western food rather plain and lacking in strong flavours and I suspect the same is true of the Polish. They tend to like food with VERY strong 'earthy' flavours. One of their favourite dishes is boiled beetroot soup which I have to say was not my cup of tea at all.

Just look at what it actually is and you'll be OK. Don't be put off by something like that, it's generally very good quality food in these ethnic sections. There are some gems to be found.

With all respect to our Polish friends, some Polish food is dreadful - they'll say this themselves too!

Polish chocolates are as bad as they come and probably only worth €2.99. Or try a Polish delicacy - lard with small bits of bacon spread on bread!!!

Unfortunately it comes from experience of being in Poland numerous times and being "force fed" some of the traditional foods!!!

Now Polish Vodka is a different story altogether - the homemade stuff beats potin anyday!!!

I lived with Polish people before and some of the stuff I found in the fridge was terrifying.

Polish jam has a very high fruit content compared to our jars of sugar with a few strawberries thrown in - very good value and a lot better quality than 'Bonne Maman' and similar expensive 'conserves'.
