    Just spotted this on RTE

    Trinity lecturer is Oscar winner

A lecturer in the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering at Trinity College Dublin is to receive an Academy Award at the Scientific and Technical Awards ceremony in Beverly Hills on Saturday night.

Dr Anil Kokaram will receive the award with three members of UK software developer the Foundry's development team - Dr Bill Collis, Simon Robinson and Ben Kent - for their work on the design and development of an integrated suite of software visual effects.

The software has been used in such films as 'Casino Royale', 'The Da Vinci Code' and 'X-Men: The Last Stand'.

Commenting on the Award, Dr Kokaram, who worked as a consultant for the Foundry, said: "I am delighted to have won this Award, especially given the stringent examination process employed by the Academy in selecting the winners. It involved six months of deliberation and assessment by two panels made up of both academics and members of the film industry."

That's pretty damn cool. Fair play to him. I think he was on University Council with us Andrew, just so you can say you've met an Oscar winner :)

Maybe it could be a new measure of where a university comes in the world rankings? :p

The film department librarian and part time administrator is an oscar winner too!

I can't remember which film it was but she won the best sound award. She's worked on loads of great films; Raging Bull, Forrest Gump...
