    hey,
analysis please on what i should have done in the following situation

live MTT down to 4 players

    SB chip leader 50,000 approx
    BB 8,000 approx
    Hero 10,000
    villain on button 40,000 approx

    blinds are 300 and 600

    pre-flop

    Hero gets 9c 9h

    Hero raises to 1800
    Villain calls
    Sb folds
    BB folds

    flop comes down

    10s 2d 5c

    Hero bets 2000
    Villain re-raises to 5000

    Call or fold ????

if i throw it away i still have over 10 big blinds with a good 10 minutes left in the level so i still have chips to move with a better hand , but i am only facing one over card on the flop???

How has Villain being playing so far? What kind of player is he?

get em all in as quick as you can

no obvious draw on the table, my guess is A5 or just air. There's a good chance he's just using his stack & position to take it from you.
if he has a T or overpair - just ul

EDIT: what's the payout structure like? is it worth holding out from 3rd spot?

you will see 66-99 here loads.

    sorry got distracted.

most players will reraise preflop, with such a small raise, with JJ+

I think the question is shove or fold rather than call or fold

I hate his raise on the flop it would stink to me of a ten but then I call it anyway

10xBB 4 handed is short still

pretty tight but he had been playing very aggressivley on the button all game e.g. making big bets if checked too on the flop, not always having a hand. he had not really re-raised a whole lot in the game though, it was him re-raising more than anything that threw me off.

If you want to win it you gotta shove. If he has a 10 well that is too bad. You were probably laying good hands to similiar type bets throughout the tourney ?
You gotta think that pre-flop he can call with just about anything (He was 40,000) althought not that advisable.

generally i am a pretty agressive player and i would not drop good hands to a re-raise unless i was in this kind of situation. would have to be 2 or 3 overcards or a draw to push me off this kind of hand.

well you see this is where you're thinking is a little flawed. If you are happy to hang on to finish 3rd then no worries, but if you want to win it from this situation you need to double up.
unless you believe the other 3 players are truely cr@p you have already invested a chunk of chips on a good hand and without an unbelievable read on the villian you shouldnt put it down.
one double up and you're a bit more dangerous. With 5,000 chips left you are an ameoba ...
