Do I need more RAM?

Just looking into this at the moment. My laptop currently has 1gb of RAM, the processor is the AMD 64 3500+. I have just installed vista and while it is running fine I am thinking about getting more ram.

I use Microstation/ AutoCAD quite a bit (and will alot more when I start college) and so would like to know should I invest in another gig of RAM? Found 1gb on Dabs.ie for €90+/- which seems like a decent price.

Also a review from someone on dabs about it said that the extra memory fried his laptop after a few months because the laptop couldn't handle the extra heat. Has anyone heard of that happening before?

Any help or thoughts on this would be great.

    Thanks,
    D

RAM is like money (or sex) - you can never get enough of it.

I would thoroughly investigate the overheating thing before purchase, but I would say that if a laptop can handle 2Gig of memory, then it should in theory be designed/built to ensure proper airflow around components to prevent it from overheating. Also check the make/model of the RAM is actually compatible with the laptop.

It may also depend where you use the laptop - if it is deskbound most of the time, then the fan should be kicking in more often, therefore keeping it cooler.

The heat issue is a bit weird unless its a design flaw with a specific model or something. If so a google should reveal more people with the same issue on the same model.
