I'm thinking of joining Hollystown but have only played there once. What do people think of this club and which price option have you gone with?

nice place, bit short, but ok. not sure it is worth joining except for handicap. unless you live very close. unless you play twice a week in the summer it is hard to get value for money against the normal green fees..

you'd want to play often as Davey said, and it has been closed quite a bit this winter even though in fairness it was quite wet, but there is a lot of interesting work going on up there, it'll be very nice in a few years, its really your call if you want to wait or go now, they have three options i think A,B and C.
A is simply to get a HC costs about 450 a year and a small discount on green fees
then its about 900 for option B and that gives you a bigger discount on your green fees, then Option C is 1350 and theres no green fees to pay

    Hi,
I used to play there quite a bit as I lived in Clonee, before I moved southside last year. The one thing you should be aware of is the drainage problems they always seem to have there in the winter months. I often found myself splashing through standing water when other courses were dry.
If you are just looking for GUI membership, Corballis is a cheaper option, as well as being a cracking little course.

Thanks for info. I played in Hollystown on boxing day, and wasn't aware of the drainage issues. I'm in Rathfarnham, so it looks like Hollystown may not be worth the trek across the city after all... I suppose Elmgreen may be a better option, for that price range.

Anyone a member of Citywest? What are the prices like?

they have a similar deal to hollystown, the cheapest one is ok for GUI. Think it was 400 when i was there. Not happy with the changes they made to the 'championship' course recently though. Nearly every hole on the front nice is now very short..

Have never seen any drainage issues in hollystown compared to other similar courses.

Hollystown is a good course, with 3 nines, that brings some extra variety. I find it more challenging than elm green. The majority of the members are top notch, and its very well run. I'd recommend Hollystown to anyone. My one gripe with it would be the amount of societys that play there. On the other hand, considering the competition from other courses, you can understand this. The blue 9 is a good challenge, especially when the wind blows, they made a great modification moving the tee box on hole 8.
