Some NTL Music Channels Missing???

Hey... I seem to be missing some of the music channels... i would normally flick to channel 720 and work down from there(that was Flaunt)... but the highest the music channels now go is 716. I can't seem to find it anywhere.
What seems to be gone is Scuzz, Flaunt and Amp(Bliss).
i've not looked through the rest of the channels to see if anything else is missing.
Can anyone else confirm that these channels are indeed missing?? and if anyone can find any other missing channels.
Oh, and i've rest the box several time, both using the reset option, and by plugging it out!! That used to work when channels disappeared, but it's just not working now.

Could this be a sign of the upcoming move from the NTL brand to the new brand, and if so, what other channels will be lost in the transation???

    B.

    Gone here too,
the channel count went down from 187 to 183,
I think it was around the same time that the branding went.

No, it's definitely something that happened yesterday. I've definitely flicked through them since the branding went, and i'm specifically watching something on one of them on Wednesday evening.
i've emailed NTL /UPC asking them whats the story, hopefully i'll hear back today!

NTL are removing those 3 channels that you mentioned from the line up and have added eurosport back onto the system again. Possibly will be more added at a later date.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 668 ✭✭✭belmulletman

have they siad why they removed those channels. there were pretty much the only channels that didn't switch to that freakin stupid and terribly annoying Cash Call crap that's on late night!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 679 ✭✭✭Eye

Not sure if it was just that they were not very popular or just part of their restructuring :-\

Flaunt, Bliss and Scuss are now fta on digital satellite in the last 7 weeks, British Eurosport is not value for money, German Eurosport is better value for money as they showed Croatia v England Euro2008 game live last October 2006, cable in Ireland is not value for money and the vast majority of Irish persons don't have the courage to cancel NTL/Chorus for FTA satellite or a outdoor tv aerial for better customer service all for a once off fee

True but Flaunt and Bliss were possibly more painful than the Cash call crap. :D

I don't know about that... that cash call crap is pretty painful!... and to be honest i wasn't a fan of bliss... 80's power ballads and all that jazz

Please stop it with the gibberish  . For the variety of channels you get, cable is significantly better value than Sky IMO. FTA satellite is quite gammy in comparison - besides the BBCs, ITVs, some news channels and FilmFour there is feck all, and it would cost quite a lot of money to install for 3 or 4 TVs, i.e. something people with cable can do easily with cable (most people can live with digital cable on one TV and analogue on the rest).

My mother could drill some holes and feed some co-ax through the attic. She certainly could not mount a satellite dish with a quad LNB or whatever and wire that up to each room then put a UHF aerial on our chimney, never mind pay several hundred euros for the equipment in question.

well I dumped chorus analogue cable (now 30 euro a month) had sky so cancelled the subscription got a second hand digi box and a roof aerial 2 years ago with a ftv card. total cost was around 400 including installation for the second box the aerial and ftv card. and I dont miss chorus one bit or sky. and at this stage I get all I need so I have saved over 400 euro in subs and made my money back. no hesitatioin in recommendion to people to do it. why pay bad money to chorus/sky for like 10 extra channels when you can get half their lineup free on satellite.

I went to 423 yesterday and it was visible and audible, there was a thing saying I wasn't subscribed but I could see it.

totally agree if you want decent tv connected to a few tvs get a outdoor tv aerial which I professionally installed for a once off fee of €170in July 2003 which connects 3 tvs in my house and we have sky digital in the main room with a UK sky freesat card

Well I think this is disgraceful. Those 4 music channels, all chart show tv, where the only real music channels we had. Flaunt, as a gay music channel played exactly what I wanted to hear. Try to get dance music on MTV Dance at 2am, cribs, great. NTL/UPC you've just removed my fav channel. I'm not happy and will be emailling and writing to chartshow tv and NTL/UPC. We have 2 bible channels, one catholic, 3 straight porn channels and the only channel which wasn't afraid to be gay is removed....lets hope it's not what I'm thinking...

Alot of us live in rented accomodation or apartments which pretty much means we can't erect dishes and antennas for FTA.

Im still confused, why did NTL take the channels away from their service just because theyre fta?! Aren't channels like Filmfour fta?

who said thats why they took them away?

if that was the case then the BBC and ITV would be gone too

I was in touch with UPC who told me these channels where removed due to lack of viewers. I'm not happy with that. I've emailed and written to them formally complaining. Please, if you feel similar to myself, let UPC know. These channels where the only real music channels on the platform which didn't turn into cash call/txt in services over night. And Flaunt was the only channel on the platform serving the gay community.

how the hell do UPC actually know how many viewers an individual channel has?
how many viewers does EWC (the religious one) have?
    it sounds dubious to me.

Thats EWTN. Alot less then Flaunt. I can't get a straight answer from them. Even their automated emails give conflicting tracking numbers in subject and body. Their calls are being answered in Belfast by a outsourced team who can't deviate from a script. Useless. My only hope is to write in to get an answer.

    hi newbie here
my god yea i didt even notice those channels missing
they better not take anymore of use
why are they removing channels should,t they be adding channels

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,638 ✭✭✭zilog_jones

Well they did add Eurosport - maybe it cost the same to get that as those 3 channels?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,031 ✭✭✭patrickmooney

Those three music channels should cost nothing! They are free to air on the sky platform.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,638 ✭✭✭zilog_jones

That wouldn't necessarily mean it would cost nothing for a cable company to redistribute them

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,031 ✭✭✭patrickmooney

Still very annoying for NTL to remove channels without notice. Especially when one of them is the main channel you watch. Still no response from my written complaints.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,233 ✭✭✭darkskol

At least we got british eurosport back after so long. Very disappointed that we lost flaunt, the music had improved a lot over the last few months. Bliss and scuzz gone too, its become quite a small selection of actual channels that play music instead of the usual "my super sweet sixteen pimps my mother" BS

Has anyone else now started trawling through the radio stations in hope of a channel that will play decent music?

I'm getting rather bored of you constantly reiterating that you have FTA satellite and think it's better than everything else.

    Change the record, please.

If you post about your FTA system again (anywhere in Cable & Digital TV forums), I will ban you. Think of something new to say in future or post nothing at all.

Now back to the topic on hand, which is about music channels on NTL, not satellite.

    Ok Guys,
i finally got a reply from NTL (a week and a half later!!) and here's what it said:
    "Thank you for your email.

Sincerest apologies for the delay in response.

You should still be receiving the music channels below.

If you are still experiencing problems with your Digital, please follow
the following steps to reboot your system:

Rebooting a Set Top Box can resolve a lot of problems with the TV
    service:

To reboot a Set Top Box, please press the HELP button and then the YELLOW button on the remote control. If the reboot doesn't start when you have pressed the HELP and YELLOW button then please unplug the Set Top Box from the wall and plug back in after 10 seconds. Please ensure that all cables are secure.

I have also sent a "d-hit" to your Set Top Box. This sends a stronger
signal to your box and may help to restore the missing channels.

If you are still experiencing problems with your service after carrying out these checks, please email again.

The reason the NTL is no longer on the EPG is due to a system change on our part.
    "

SOOO... we are supposed to be getting those channels... but the EPG says there's 184 channels... i dunno, i think someones in NTL has got their wires crossed!

On a separate note, has anyone being havin problems with Sky News and Paramount 2?? They are gone real bad on me (when i pull up the info page on those channels, it's showing errors like mad, and a weak signal strength!)... BUT all other channels are fine...

    Thanks,
    B

NO such reply here yet, so I rang them yesterday to once again complain about the removal of the music channels. After been transfered around for a bit, I finally made it through to customer care. Apartently they ran a customer survey, and those three channels came out bottom. Thus their removal. They've had very few complaints. I can't believe that. Another written letter will be sent tomorrow.

Did they not say something similar about Eurosport despite people complaining in news papers etc?

    Hi All,
Got another reply from them pretty much stating what Patrick was saying above, that infact those 3 channels didn't even register on the poll (which means they had a viewership of less the 0.1%) which is in comparison to The Hits which had a 3% and MTV at 2%...

@Bellmulletman, Do you by any chance have a broadband service from NTL??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 668 ✭✭✭belmulletman

No, thank god... i have smart BB (and love it may i add)

I have a Service guy calling out on monday to see what the problem is...
the Digibox could be gone a bit dodgy!
actually, speaking of Digibox, did anyone get NTL Digital in Lately?
just wondering cause i have the little pace box, i know they used to use a big digibox, but anything bigger won't fit in my AV Unit!!

Oh, and i'm D8 at the top of the South Circular if anyone in the area can check if they have a problem with 202 or 128...

    much appreciated,

    B

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,559 ✭✭✭The tax man

Ah ok, heard something about people having a similar problem as yours but it was to do with the BB modem and wiring causing some crap to come back to the STB and cause random channels to act up.
If you do get a new STB you should get one of the small ones. Less of the other boxes around these days.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 668 ✭✭✭belmulletman

    cool... thanks for that taxman...
i know there was an NTL crew at the house a couple of weeks back disconnecting ppl, i wasn't here, but one of the other guys told me. i suspect it has something to do with that, as i don't remember there being a problem before that...
the cable might just need to be tightened...

I'll update on monday after mr NTL (or UPC, what ever they are calling themselves now!) as been.

Well did anyone call out to you today and get it sorted??

    Hey TaxMan...

    Long story... so i'll summarise:
Got a call about 11am this morning from the guy coming to check things out.
    Left work, got home,
Got a call again from the guy saying he can't do anything!
    Why i asked!?
he was outside the apartment, but He couldn't work on it as it was in another guys patch!! (WTF!!??)
He supposedly phoned dispatch and the proper guy was meant to call... Never did! I didn't really expect him to, to be honest.

I mailed the girl in UPC that has contacted me in the past, and asked her for a Sat appointment this Saturday.
She got back to me within min's and confirmed a Sat priority booking.
I have to say, i am extremely impressed with this one girl who i have been talking to, and when it's all done and sorted I will be phoning her manager singing her praises.
Personally, i feel that she has gone above and beyond, and it's because of her that I'm not pissed off at the whole situation. If only all staff in UPC were like her.
I'll update once I have more info (Saturday hopefully)

    B.

Techs have areas alright but nothing set in stone. They should have checked it out if they were outside. Lazy bollox IMO. Hopefully the Sat apt goes ok.

    OK...
So Nobody called on Saturday, so on Monday i emailed that girl i've been dealing with in UPC and told her, and she almost instantly got back to me letting me know that i had been rebooked for today.
Sure enough someone just called out... he replaced the wall unit (where the cable comes into the Apt.). he said they should have replaced them a couple of years ago as they are faulty...
So he replaced that, and then the cable from the wall to the STB (with really good quality cable, not the crap they gave me the last time) and he replaced the STB as well (Same small pace one again).

I also got a new viewing card. all seems to be working well, and the channels that were freezing up no longer seem to be freezing, and the signal strength is definitely stronger!

All in all, i have to say, i've been impressed with UPC's service. while a few bad seeds have let it down slightly, people like the girl i've been dealing with, and the service guy today, will keep me with UPC for a while more (oh, all that and the fact that they are releasing a Sky+ style system in the next month or so!!)

Good to see you finally got it sorted out. What did the old outlet box look like?? Square with Cablelink or NTL printed on it.?
