    get any IDE hard drive.

there use to be a limit - the name eludes me atm - on computers < win2k that limited the drive to 120gigs, as long as you're running XP there is no limit - or hasn't been hit yet with current hard drives - to speak of.

buy from here http://www.komplett.ie/k/kl.asp?bn=10089 fairly limited selection tbh IDE is a dying breed :p.

are you looking to replace a hard drive or have a second drive to use as a data store. if you're doing the latter you'll need to change the jumper settings before installing it into your pc it's a fairly simple job and it's one time that a tweezers actually comes in handy for a guy :D

I already have the hard drive... well 2 of them Im fixing it up for a friend and I figured she doesn't need 80 gigs of hard drive space (2X40 gig) for bebo and the internet.. nor does she need a graphics card.. lol

Would a normal tweezers(cosmetic) do the job? I actually dont have a clue about changing jumper settings but alas google is my friend!

EDIT: Actually I was wondering about this raid 0 thing! Do I need two identical hard drives for that?

RAID stuff is mostly used for SATA drives. You are talking about IDE drives there right?
And even if they were SATA drives, they don't need to be exactly the same to function (depending on which RAID setup you use).

Ok, to get this straight: you want to add a secondary hard drive into your PC (i.e a slave drive)? Is this correct?

If so, simply remove the jumper or go with the Cable Select option. Make sure your PC is completely switched off and unplug it. Wait a few minutes to make sure all the static is gone then plug in the new hard drive (power & IDE data cable). Your Master drive ( C: ) should be plugged in at the very end of the IDE data cable. In the middle of this cable there is another IDE connection. That's the one that fits into the slave drive. Then simply plug PC back in, boot up and open Windows Explorer. You should see your new drive there.

Looks that way alright, you are putting this on the same cable (Primary IDE) as the Master (drive with Windows), correct?
