    Hey Accountants,

I am working in a contract position.
I started on Jan 10th and finish on March 6th.
I will be getting €6200 for my troubles.
I want to pay my own tax's but the people that i work for are saying that i have to give them a letter from my accountant (which i dont have) stateing that i will pay my own tax's before they release all my money to me.

    My questions are

    1. How much tax will I have to pay on the €6200?
    2. Do i need a VAT number?
    3. Will i have to pay tax if i am leaving the counrty in mid March?
    4. Do i have to give them a letter from an accountant?

    Thanks in advance.

Letter from an accountant  Absolute baloney, tell them you submit them yourself.

You can't calculate your tax on the €6,200 until the end of the year in case you earn more.

Don't need a VAT number unless you go over the threshold (which I can't remember at this point in time  - don't beat me please ;)).

Question 3 is a difficult one, there's alot of different criteria to be met in order not to pay tax.

You'll have to pay preliminary tax by 31st October. You should have a better idea of your earnings for the year around that time so come back to us then.

I dont want to pay for an accountant just to write me a letter that i dont need so do you think i should say get your accountant to write something up and i will sign it.

In this country, we operate a self assessment tax system, the onus is on you to make the returns and not them.

Tell them that they are talking through there backside.

I am assuming you are regsitered as self employed individual with the Revenue.

If you want to work for a company and not be an employee you will need to issue them an invoice(s).
