I've bought the bits and am hoping to do it on the weekend. just looking for a bit of info from other who may have done it

I'm also thinking about changing my spark plugs soon too so any help would be great.

    cheers.

Its a fairly easy job to change the oil but the spark plugs are a pig to get at, petrol tank off, rad hinged forward and two extension bars on the ratchet.

The service manual is downloadable off www.cbr250.com if you need it.

Make sure the engine is still warm when you drain the oil! ;)

Oh and make sure to apply a little bit of oil on the rubber seal of the new filter before screwing it on too! ;)

The rest is easy enough in fairness...

Have the engine warm all right so the oil flows out faster and brings more gunk out with it. But it's not really a good idea to have it hot enough to burn your hands on the pipes! (ask me how I know) so if you've just been out for a spin, let the exhaust cool down for say 10 minutes.

When you start the engine after changing the filter, you basically will have no oil pressure for a few seconds, so rev the engine as little as possible. Let it idle for a minute or two then stop it, let settle for a few minutes then check the level, after the filter fills up with oil it will have dropped. Ideally get a new washer for the oil drain plug, although not usually essential, but make sure you don't over-tighten it.

    Cheers guys.
    I've another question.
Ive to get a bit of work done to the bike, it needs a new Chair and Sprocket set and the Steering head bearings need to be replaced. I've gotten a quote for 500 for the lot it beaks down as
165 + 1hr @65 euro for the Chain and sprocket
    75 + 4 hr @ 65 for the steering head...

Does this sound ok or is it expensive.
Any recommendations for a good garage about south dublin.

    cheers again

Sounds about right, the steering head requires the whole front end to be taken apart, and can be quite difficult to remove even then
