The date for this year's World Wide Developers Conference has been set: June 11-15, which is about two months earlier than last year. This is most likely when Leopard will get released also. Steve did say late Spring after all and Spring officially doesn't end (in america anyway) till the summer solstice on June 21.

I know a lot of people were expecting Apple to rush the release to compete with Vista but that just doesn't seem possible. Early reports say Leopard has a long way to go, not to mention Apple has still to release the final update to Tiger, 10.4.9. Trying to compete with Vista would be stupid anyway, Leopard simply isn't ready and unlike Microsoft, Apple will wait till it's finished before releasing it. The supposed event later this month is most likely to announce new Macs, Displays, iLife, etc and maybe a further preview of Leopard.

I hope to god they bring out new Macbook Pro's this month, I don't care about forking out 100e for Leopard in June or July but I want to be able to get my Macbook Pro when I visit the states in May

Latest MBPs are only out 3 months. Got one myself while passing through US in December. Bit soon for an upgrade. Maybe by May.....

I don't think the MacBook Pro's will receive an upgrade until at least the summer, perhaps as early as June or July.

hmm, ah crap anyway, going to have to hold off I guess, not spending money on a macbook pro if a new one is out within weeks of it

You're only denying yourself by waiting ;)
Plus, what would you be looking for in a redesign that you don't find in the current MBP?

    It's a good time to buy a MBP. http://buyersguide.macrumors.com/

Now ThinkSecret are saying that Leopard is coming along faster than expected and it could be ready by late March. They also say the new versions of iWork and iLife will arrive alongside it. Link

Grain of salt, of course. ThinkSecret sadly aren't as reliable as they used to be.

There're neutral on if it's a good time to buy so,if you need to buy a MBP now, it would be a good time to buy. If you can wait then wait. I've heard rummors the next MPB will have a new design but, that would make it a Rev A. Rev A's are never good buy's. So you'd end up waiting for the Rev B's to come out. That's eight months of waiting. In my opinion now is a good time if you need a MBP.

I got a Rev A MacBook, a Rev A MacBook Pro, a Rev A iMac G5 and a Rev A Mac mini (both the first revision PowerPC and the first Intel Mac mini).

With the exception of the iMac G5, which had a capacitor problem 2 years after buying it, which Apple repaired for free even though I had no AppleCare extended warranty, I have not had any problems with so-called "Rev A" machines.

Your mileage may vary. I just think this whole "Rev A" thing gets blown out of proportion, at least in my own personal experience.

That's the internet for you -- 2 dozen reports of "broken" equipment == every single machine from the millions is affected!! (See PS2, PSP, Wii, Macbook, Powerbook, etc...)

There were more then just a few rev A Macbooks having random shut downs and discoloration's. The rev A Macbook pros had faults with there airport cards, from what I've herd the rev A iBooks had major problems., rev A iMacs had heat and capacitors problems (they changed the inside on the rev b because of it), and also first gen iPods had battery issues. I agree though that millions were not affected and a lot of it was not Apple's but the suppliers fault. Still rev A's don't have a good history. With a rev B they've usually worked out all the bugs. Anyway, that's just my opinion.

Got a number of iMacs recently in work, lovely machines....makes me tempted to sell off my Windows machine just to buy the 20" model.

    Screen quality is just amazing

So whats happening with the possibility of an apple announcement this month?

Well there was another rumour about Leopard coming in March, more bulls**t imo. But nothing this month that I've heard. If you're waiting on new macbook pros then Apple won't necessarily make any big announcement, often new revisions are just added to the online store on a Tuesday. MBPs were only updated in late October anyway

    UPDATE:

Thinksecret have some details on the latest Leopard build seeded to developers, which despite having "questionable" stability they still claim will be ready for a late March release.

However AppleInsider posted this today which IMO much more strongly suggests a release around WWDC in June.

    ANOTHER UPDATE:

Well Thinksecret have finally given in about Leopard being released early—they now say it will arrive in June at WWDC. But, as has been typical of them of late, they made up the usual crap about the date being pushed back, so we were right blah blah blah. The rumours about it being delayed later than June are also rubbish. It will be released late Spring, which is exactly when Apple said it would be released a year ago.
